About the Opportunity

As Junior Engineering Associate you will support the design and development of innovative medical devices. This role requires problem solving skills and hands-on contributions across the full product development lifecycle from prototyping and testing to documentation and design reviews while maintaining a steadfast commitment to quality, compliance, and patient safety. This is a collaborative role requiring excellent communication skills and cross-functional engagement with all project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Development

  • Prioritize user and patient safety and product quality throughout the development process.
  • Assist in the design and development of medical devices, ensuring alignment with regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Build and test prototypes to evaluate product concepts and generate data for iterative improvement.
  • Support engineering studies through data analysis, troubleshooting, and proposal of design improvements.
  • Participate in risk assessments and hazard analysis to identify and mitigate potential product risks.
  • Identify and troubleshoot design issues, proposing solutions and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Assist in the development and execution of pilot and formal verification and validation (V&V) activities.
  • Prepare test protocols and reports in accordance with quality system requirements.
  • Maintain detailed records of design changes, test results, and project progress, adhering to quality management systems.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards, including ISO 13485 and ISO 14971, in all stages of product development.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to ensure products comply with FDA and other regulatory standards.

Additional expectations

  • Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and technologies relevant to medical device development.
  • Assist in cost analysis and optimization efforts to ensure products are developed within budget constraints.
  • Consider and integrate sustainable design practices into product development when applicable.
  • Support pre-clinical and clinical research activities where required.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Biomedical, Mechanical, Materials, or related field)
  • 0-2 years of experience in product development, prototyping, or regulated R&D settings (internship/co-op experience acceptable).
  • Demonstrated ability to apply a multidisciplinary skill set spanning biomedical and mechanical engineering principles, as evidenced through academic and/or personal projects.
  • Familiarity with laboratory tools and fabrication techniques (e.g., mechanical testing, CAD, 3D printing).
  • Strong documentation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, and quality-driven environment while remaining organized and detail oriented.
  • Experience in data analysis, research and technical report writing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze data and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to ISO 13485, ISO 14971 or FDA QSR-compliant product development.
  • Experience supporting engineering activities under a formal quality system.
  • Familiarity with risk analysis (FMEA), design controls, and medical device documentation practices.
