Basic Purpose of Position:

To provide engineering services to support all divisions of the Jazz Aviation LP Maintenance Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design modifications for the Jazz aircraft fleet, to aircraft avionics, systems and equipment to enhance the reliability, serviceability and passenger appeal of the aircraft.
  • Provide technical analysis and feasibility studies on proposed repairs, modifications or improvements for avionics, interiors, and systems to Jazz aircraft fleet.
  • Review Service Bulletins (SB), Advisory Directives (AD), etc. affecting engineering repairs or modifications.
  • Review and determine airworthiness standards applicable for all repairs or modifications affecting the Jazz aircraft fleet.
  • Prepare engineering documents to be used by maintenance personnel to complete the work on the aircraft.
  • Consult with internal customers for requirements/needs.
  • Ensure that all engineering data (MDL) Master Drawing List, (MCR) Modification Category Review, Compliance Program, Reports, Drawings, etc. are completed and in accordance with Transport Canada regulations/requirements and Engineering Department Manuals.
  • Assist in the review and revision of Engineering procedures, processes and forms.
  • Prepare data package for Transport Canada STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) submission under Jazz Airworthiness Engineering Organization (AEO).
  • Provide technical information and assistance to other departments to ensure that aircraft meet the airworthiness requirements when new modifications or enhancement to the fleet is required.
  • Provide technical assistance to other departments after major modifications are completed on the aircraft.
  • Provide engineering guidance and support for major on-going aircraft modifications.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Line/Heavy/Shops Maintenance and Fleet Specialists to complete first time installation of Engineering Orders on the fleet.
  • Acquire appropriate vendor data (appliance approval, burn certificates, etc.) in support of engineering project approval.
  • Provide contractors with engineering data (drawings, reports, and measurements) such that they can obtain the required approval for Jazz engineering.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established policies and procedures while giving primary consideration to personal safety, and the safety of co-workers and customers.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for Transport Canada Aircraft Certification delegation is desirable.
  • B.Sc. (Eng.), or CET (Diploma in Engineering Technology), or an equivalent combination of education and relevant aeronautical, aerospace, civil, or mechanical experience is required.
  • Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness regulations, standards, and aircraft modification processes is desirable.
  • 5 or more years' experience in an aircraft engineering environment, with experience directly related to aircraft.
  • Must be able to communicate (spoken and written) effectively in English and prepare and interpret technical drawings including wiring diagrams.
  • Familiarity with some (or all) of the aircraft types in the Jazz fleet is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of the following is required:
    • Canadian Airworthiness and Operational Requirements.
    • Aircraft Electronic Equipment, Avionics and Systems.
    • Aircraft Wiring Standard Design Practices.
    • Installation and Repair Design.
    • Electrical and Avionics Systems.
    • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
    • Project Management.
  • Working knowledge of the following is an asset:
    • Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Testing.
    • Electrical Load Analysis (ELA).
    • Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS).
    • Enhanced Zonal Analysis Procedure (EZAP).
    • Lightning and HIRF Protection.
    • Computer Aided Design (CAD).
    • Previous working experience with Transport Canada Aircraft Certification is an asset.
    • Transport Canada Aircraft Certification Specialty and Changed Product Rule Specialty Training or equivalent is an asset.
