NB Health Link (NBHL) leverages technological solutions and innovative clinical delivery models to provide access to care for New Brunswickers who don't have a family doctor or nurse practitioner. The program provides patients who are registered with the program access to a network of family doctors, physician assistants and nurse practitioners throughout the province - offering in-person, telephone and online appointments in both official languages.

JOB SUMMARY

Physician Assistants are medically trained clinicians who practice under the supervision of licensed physicians and according to the regulatory framework established by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick (CPSNB). PAs will collaborate with specified physicians, and their scope of practice and autonomy will be defined and periodically reviewed. PAs contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients across the health continuum, supporting NBHL's objective of delivering timely, high-quality, and patient-centered care.

As employees of EM/ANB Inc., PAs are responsible to patients, families, and colleagues by participating in and supporting safety-related initiatives and fostering a culture of learning. The priority remains the safety of patients, caregivers, and the workplace.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history-taking and physical examinations;
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging and develop treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians;
  • Prescribe medications and initiate referrals under delegated authority;
  • Participate in chronic disease management, preventative care, and health promotion activities;
  • Document clinical findings, treatment plans, and patient progress in the electronic health record in a timely and accurate manner;
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other health professionals to ensure coordinated care;
  • Participate in the development of clinical protocols and contribute to quality improvement initiatives;
  • Support patient transitions between care settings and facilitate follow-up care;
  • Engage in orientation, training, and supervised practice evaluation as part of the onboarding process;
  • Practice within limits of defined level of scope of practice;
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned to support the program.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of a recognized Physician Assistant program;
  • Certified as a Canadian Certified Physician Assistant (CCPA) by the Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC), or as a Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA);
  • Hold and maintain PA registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick (CPSNB);
  • Current and maintained Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS and ATLS are assets;
  • At least 3 years' experience in primary health care setting; experience in comprehensive family medicine and/or emergency medicine settings preferred;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and team-based environment;
  • Strong clinical reasoning and critical thinking abilities;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving care environment;
  • Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and ethical practice;
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and Microsoft Office tools;
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration initiatives;
  • Desire to develop autonomy & further responsibilities in practice as well as recognize limitations in knowledge and scope of care;
  • Desire to be part of innovative initiatives and work in changing environments;
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate a determinants of health approach into care delivery;
  • Actively participates as a team member to provide comprehensive care to all patients;
  • Must be able to work all shifts as assigned, maintaining a good attendance record;
  • Adherence to professional ethical principles.
