Western Memorial Regional Hospital, a brand new, state of the art, acute care hospital opened in June 2024, is a 164-bed regional referral centre for Western Newfoundland and provides services to a population base of approximately 80,000 people. We are affiliated with Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador Faculty of Medicine, and we encourage and support academic interests. Western Memorial Regional Hospital has a fully developed Stroke Unit, full Rehabilitation Services, Electrodiagnostic and is serviced by 3 CT scanners and 2 MRI scanners. The surgical services we provide include: general surgery, orthopedics, gynecology and obstetrics, ENT, urology, and ophthalmology coverage.

We are currently seeking the services of a Clinical Assistant for surgical services at Western Zone NLHS Corner Brook, NL. This opportunity is available immediately.

Job Summary

Clinical Assistants are advanced practice clinicians who form part of a multidisciplinary health care team. The Clinical Assistant will work closely with the Clinical Surgery program and will be responsible to the Department Head of Surgery and Senior Medical Director. Under distributive supervision, the successful candidate may be expected to provide surgical assistance in the operating room, supervised consultations in the ER; and provide ward coverage including admissions, rounds and discharge facilitation. Attendance at rounds and participation in on-call coverage (nights and weekends) will be shared equitably with the group.

As the Clinical Assistant, you may be an International Medical Graduate, have a background in Family Medicine or Specialty training with an interest in working full-time, to learn or augment your skill set and comfort in the areas described above.

Required Qualifications

Education (Post-Secondary):

  • Must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Eligible for membership of the Medical Staff of NL Health Services;
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient-focused care and evidence-based practice;
  • FRCPC or equivalent (Clinical Associate) or medical degree (Clinical Assistant)
  • Satisfy credentialing requirements of Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.

Hours of work: 75 Hours Bi-Weekly. May vary according to patient needs or needs of the service to best utilize the time of the incumbent. Participation in on-call coverage, shared equitably with the group.

Remuneration: Salary and benefits for this position are to be paid in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador. Starting salary will be based on years of clinical experience.
