Position Purpose

Yard Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring systems and processes are in place and adhered to that allows for of inbound & outbound activities at the Distribution Centres and any offsite storage locations. The Yard Assistant Manager must have experience configuring and operating a Yard Management Systems like Zebra. Individuals in this position must work cooperatively with other internal stakeholders and external vendors, carriers and service providers. Following Home Depot safety policies and procedures is of great importance to this position.

The Assistant Manager, Yard Operations is responsible for three yards located in GTA, (SFC, AVRO, DFC) working three shifts. There are 8 yard controllers split between AVRO and SFC buildings that report into this position.
Position Responsibilities

• Follow Home Depot safety policies and procedures and encourages other Associates to do the same.
• Works cooperatively and productively with Department Heads and other Associates in order to complete tasks.
• Works productively with little supervision.
• Maintain accurate operation of the yard integrity, dock, security, yard switchers.
• Provides and inspires outstanding service to customers (i.e., stores, etc.) by maintaining attention to detail and completing assigned work in a timely manner.
• Troubleshoot shipping and receiving problems as they arise.
• Prioritize tasks in order of importance while handling interruptions due to telephone calls, public address announcements, and requests for information.
• Develop, train and maintain Yard SOP
• Work a schedule that allows for access to all operating shifts.
• Financial and Operations Metrics development and reporting.
• Maintain operating platform (YMS)

Experience/Knowledge Required

• Two or more years experience specific to Yard Management in a logistics environment with technical expertise in a reputable Yard Management system.
• Must fulfill minimum time-in-position (1 year) and performance management code requirements (V2 - Valued Associate, Well Positioned)
• Minimum of 3-5 years management experience; demonstrated leadership and teambuilding skills
• Demonstrates awareness of Home Depot safety policies and procedures; includes ability to identify and report safety hazards, and the ability to encourage others to work safely.
• Ability to work productively and effectively in all functional warehouse areas under stressful working conditions such as tight time frames, heavy workloads, or conflicting demands.
- Must be a current people leader, current Operations Managers preferred
