Parsons has been a leader in the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure for more than 75 years. In Canada, their teams have helped shape major corridors and transit systems from coast to coast, from complete streets and active transportation networks to highways, interchanges, and light rail transit. With a growing presence in Halifax, the transportation team is focused on helping municipal and provincial clients expand and improve mobility through smart, sustainable, and transformative engineering solutions.
Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with Parsons to recruit a Principal, Transportation Engineering for their Halifax office. This is an opportunity to join a team known for technical excellence and progressive thinking, where your leadership, insight, and collaborative approach will help deliver critical infrastructure across Atlantic Canada and beyond.
Role Description
This is a strategic role that blends technical direction, project oversight, and team development. You will play a key leadership role in designing and delivering a variety of transportation infrastructure projects. You will support proposal development and manage client relationships while providing mentorship to junior staff. The work spans all phases of project delivery, including planning studies, functional and detailed design, and support through construction.
You will guide innovative transportation solutions, from complete streets and arterial roadways to active transportation and transit-supportive corridors, that have a tangible impact on the region's infrastructure and communities.
Duties:
- Lead planning and design efforts for a wide range of transportation infrastructure, including urban corridors, highways, transit facilities, and multi-modal networks.
- Oversee project execution to ensure timely delivery, adherence to budgets, and alignment with regulatory standards and client expectations.
- Provide senior technical expertise on transportation studies, traffic analysis, preliminary/detailed design, cost estimating, and tender documentation.
- Prepare and review technical reports, design drawings, specifications, and proposals.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering technical growth and team development.
- Collaborate with internal teams across disciplines and coordinate sub-consultant work where required.
- Develop and manage strong relationships with municipal, provincial, and private sector clients.
- Lead or support business development activities, including identifying opportunities, preparing proposals, and participating in pursuit strategy.
- Represent Parsons at industry conferences, technical committees, and stakeholder engagements.
Qualifications
You are a seasoned transportation engineer with a strong foundation in technical delivery. Over the course of your career, you've played a lead role in the planning and design of complex roadway and multi-modal projects, earning the trust of public sector clients and colleagues alike. Your professional designation as a P.Eng. reflects your technical rigour, while your familiarity with provincial and municipal design standards ensures that your solutions are practical, context-sensitive, and aligned with current policy frameworks. You're comfortable presenting ideas to stakeholders, guiding the preparation of reports and technical documentation, and serving as a senior reviewer on multidisciplinary projects.
Your qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on transportation; a Master's degree is considered an asset.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing in Nova Scotia (or eligible for transfer).
- 15+ years of experience in transportation engineering, including leadership in planning and design of transportation corridors.
- Proven success managing multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating work with sub-consultants and internal resources.
- Strong knowledge of municipal and provincial design standards, policies, and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience preparing and delivering winning proposals and managing ongoing client relationships.
- Familiarity with software tools used for transportation planning and design, and ability to provide oversight on complex technical work.
- Active involvement in industry organizations such as TAC or ITE is considered an asset.
Join Parsons and help build the next generation of infrastructure in Atlantic Canada. Their collaborative teams are united by curiosity, technical excellence, and a shared mission to shape communities through safe, sustainable, and award-winning engineering. As part of the Halifax team, you will be supported with professional development opportunities, leadership visibility, and the chance to make a lasting impact. Build what's next, together.
