Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

TP-8171

Parsons is a recognized leader in transportation infrastructure, bringing over 75 years of expertise in the planning, design, and delivery of bridge projects worldwide. In Canada, their teams are known for tackling some of the most complex bridge engineering challenges, from long-span and movable structures to rehabilitation and inspection services. Their presence in Atlantic Canada continues to expand, driven by a commitment to innovation and technical excellence.

In partnership with Meridia, Parsons is seeking a seasoned and forward-thinking Engineering Manager, Bridges & Marine, to lead the structural team based in Halifax and help drive the growth of their practice across the Atlantic Provinces.

Role Description

As the Engineering Manager, Bridges and Marine, you will guide a high-performing team of engineers and designers while engaging directly with clients, stakeholders, and project partners across all phases of work. This leadership role combines technical excellence, project delivery oversight, and business development responsibilities, with a focus on bridge and marine infrastructure. You will play a central role in advancing key initiatives, mentoring technical staff, and ensuring that project outcomes align with client expectations and Parsons' commitment to quality. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who thrives on delivering innovative, practical engineering solutions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the Halifax structural team in delivering bridge and marine projects from planning through design, tendering, and construction.
  • Serve as the principal structural designer on major projects including feasibility studies, rehabilitation work, inspections, and detailed design.
  • Develop and oversee project plans, ensuring schedule, budget, quality, and safety standards are met.
  • Act as a primary liaison with clients, regulatory bodies, sub-consultants, and internal teams across North America.
  • Prepare and manage technical reports, proposals, RFPs, and tenders, and support the procurement process for key projects.
  • Mentor, coach, and manage a team of 5-10 technical professionals, supporting performance evaluations and recruitment efforts.
  • Lead or contribute to business development efforts, identifying and pursuing new project opportunities throughout the Maritimes.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and the Regional Director to drive strategic initiatives, grow Parsons' local presence, and contribute to national infrastructure programs.
  • Champion innovation, adopting emerging technologies and best practices to strengthen technical delivery.
  • Represent Parsons at professional associations, industry forums, and client meetings, maintaining visibility and thought leadership.

Your Qualifications

You are a seasoned engineering professional with a solid foundation in structural design and a track record of delivering complex bridge projects across various delivery models. You bring a deep understanding of structural theory and its practical application to large-scale infrastructure, including fluency in Canadian bridge codes and advanced structural analysis tools. Whether working on conventional or design-build projects, you've demonstrated the ability to navigate procurement processes, coordinate with multiple stakeholders, and manage delivery in line with regulatory standards. You bring a leadership style that's collaborative, solution-focused, and supportive of professional development within your team.

Your qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree is considered an asset.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in bridge structural design.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing in Nova Scotia (or eligible for transfer).
  • Familiarity with national bridge codes (CAN/CSA-S6) and a structural analysis software (SAP2000, CSiBridge, or MIDAS).
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and delivering results on high-impact infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and lead technical proposals and manage client relationships.
  • Knowledge of public infrastructure procurement, design standards, and regulatory frameworks in the Maritimes.
  • Experience with marine structures or coastal infrastructure is a strong asset.
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is an asset.

Join Parsons and help build the next generation of infrastructure in Atlantic Canada. Their collaborative teams are united by curiosity, technical excellence, and a shared mission to shape communities through safe, sustainable, and award-winning engineering. As part of the Halifax team, you will be supported with professional development opportunities, leadership visibility, and the chance to make a lasting impact. Build what's next, together.
