Long-Term Care Assistant
Casual Position
Nakile Home for Special Care has taken pride in offering a friendly, bright, home-like atmosphere to seniors in Argyle and the surrounding areas since 1989. We are a 48-bed facility, and we are fully licensed by the province of Nova Scotia. Nakile maintains a reputation as one of the finest long-term care facilities in Western Nova Scotia. We are currently seeking qualified candidates to join the Nakile family in the role of Casual Long-Term Care Assistant.
Qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Dementia Support training an asset (GPA, Dementia Undertsanding the Journey)
- Communication training an asset
- Previous experience working in Long-Term Care Environment
- Safe Lift and Transfer/Resident Handling & Mobility Training
Duties include:
- Foster a home-like environment
- Attend report
- Supervise Main Lounge/ corridor areas
- Prepare residents for meals
- Assist with feeding meals
- Tidy resident rooms
- Set up snack carts and serve snacks to residents
- Redirect, intervene, and settle disruptive behaviors.
- Spend time with residents offering one-on-one or in small groups
- Answer call bells, assist whenever possible
- Assist nursing staff using transfer lifts (ceiling and portable) whenever needed
- Assist nursing staff with resident's personal care
- Prepare activities based on resident needs: puzzles, fold laundry, coloring, sensory items
- Set up TV programs or music for residents in their rooms
- Take residents outside for a walk or supervise outdoor patio time

Work Requirements:
- Work location- Argyle, NS
- 8 and/or 12 hour shifts
- Schedule will include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Casuals are required to work a minimum of one weekend per month
- Dependability, reliability, and availability are key requirements
Compensation:
- Long-Term Care Assistant rate of pay
