Position description
Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Grant Writer identifies and pursues grant opportunities from government, foundations, and private sources to advance the university's strategic priorities. They write persuasive and compelling fundraising proposal content, and letters for individuals, corporations and foundations. This includes research and information gathering, along with preparation of the proposals and reports in audience-appropriate format. The Development Grant Writer works collaboratively with the Marketing & Communication team, Donor Relations Officer - Communications, and other members of University Advancement and the campus community.
Responsibilities
- Identify and pursue grant opportunities from government, foundations, and private sources in alignment with core university priorities, as identified by management and/or the University's strategic plan
- Lead the writing, editing, and submission of compelling and persuasive grant proposals and supporting documentation, ensuring alignment with funding requirements and criteria
- Prepare letters of intent, endorsement letters, and related documents supporting the proposal submission and relationship cultivation process
- Ensure all grant proposals are thoroughly documented and compliant with funders' guidelines
- Maintain accurate records of assigned grant submissions including progress tracking
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications/skills
- A bachelor's degree
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in grant writing, grants administration, or fundraising - preferably in a government, post-secondary or nonprofit environment
- Demonstrated success in persuasive and compelling writing with attention to detail and deadlines
- Proven track record of securing funding from diverse sources
- Knowledge of a broad range of writing styles and techniques
- Demonstrated creativity, and capacity to brings concepts and ideas to life
- Exceptional project management skills, with attention to detail, accuracy and prioritization
- Proven interpersonal skills and ability to communicate appropriately and work confidently with colleagues, major donors, volunteers, students, faculty and University administrators
- Team player with the ability to work independently with initiative in a demanding environment
- Demonstrated research skills
- Proven discretion in dealing with confidential donor information
- Ability to travel occasionally
- Proficiency with MS Office
