The Donor Communications Specialist supports and execute strategies to generate philanthropic revenue through donor engagement, stewardship, and marketing initiatives. This role will focus on granting organizations to support retention, revenue growth and growing confirmed expectancies. This role will act as a key subject matter expert in the program areas within the Red Cross, both existing and those that evolve with the organization. The Donor Communications Specialist will ensure the creation of content, messaging, and programming in service to the work of partners in major gifts, planned giving, corporate partnerships, and granting foundations.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the Trans-creation of existing English copy into compelling French copy for donor-facing fundraising and marketing materials
  • Not be just a translator, you are a copywriter who can translate the messaging and stories from an English-speaking audience, to a French-speaking audience
  • Adhere to French copywriting style guide as well as the Canadian Red Cross communication style guide
  • Support the gathering, storing and disseminating high-impact content, including audiovisual assets, testimonials, impact stats and finished products
  • Track and follow up on opportunities for new content across the organization as well as the larger Red Cross Movement
  • Synthesize and transform programmatic, complex language into clear and impactful communications
  • Contribute to the development of tailored engagement strategies (e.g., proposals, applications) under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Proactively develop deep content knowledge and ensure adherence to organizational messaging and encourage demonstration of Canadian Red Cross's depth, breadth, and impact through exciting and inspiring stories.
  • Build partnerships with communication colleagues across Philanthropy and organization wide to ensure coordination and inclusion of society-wide messaging and content.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff and volunteers involved in campaign and event execution.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and leadership to ensure alignment between fundraising efforts and organizational priorities.

What we are looking for

  • Fluency in English and French copywriting is required
  • A minimum of 3 years experience and a 1-2 year post-secondary certification/diploma, or less experience if combined with a 3-year college diploma or university degree in fundraising, communications, marketing, business, nonprofit management, or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting digital or direct marketing fundraising campaigns, grant writing, and writing donor communications
  • Ability to identify, investigate and analyze problems, identify root causes and risks, and apply technical, functional and organizational knowledge to develop solutions.
  • Communication skills, diplomacy and empathy to interpret information and deliver advice, clarify client or stakeholder needs, offer solutions, and resolve escalations in new or somewhat sensitive situations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 tools (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) to support communication, collaboration, and document management.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising principles, donor engagement, and stewardship practices.
  • Knowledge of ethical fundraising standards and donor privacy regulations.
