*A number of factors are considered when determining a starting salary for our new team members, including length and depth of relevant work experience, skillset, and education & training. Our salary ranges are reviewed on an annual basis.

We are currently seeking a Wills & Estates Paralegal to join our Paralegal team based in the Firm's Charlottetown, PE office.

Type of Position: Full-Time, Permanent

The Opportunity:

The Firm's Wills & Estates Paralegal is responsible for organizing, coordinating and providing a broad range of paralegal services to Stewart McKelvey's Business Department.

The successful candidate will maintain ongoing communication with beneficiaries and assist in filing necessary documentation and insurance claims. Under the supervision of the billing lawyer, the successful candidate will prepare wills, trusts, and other property ownership agreements. They will also prepare, maintain, and update Estate Trust Reconciliations for distribution to residual beneficiaries, draft all requisite Releases to be signed by beneficiaries to release Executors and Proctors from claims upon final asset distribution.

In addition, the successful candidate will prepare all necessary court applications related to estates, such as Applications for Probate, Administration, Ancillary Probate, and Ancillary Administration. They will also oversee asset transfers for trusts, maintain records of wills and savings accounts, and monitor changes in beneficiary designations and property titles.

While ensuring regulatory compliance, the Will's and Estate Paralegal will assist with legal research, regulations, and court practices that affect wills and estate administration. Regularly tracking of billable and non-billable time in the Firm's finance database will also be required.

If you possess a post-secondary education background in Paralegal studies or have Paralegal specific training, we want to hear from you!

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of experience as a paralegal or in a related field, excellent communication skills and experience conducting legal research through the proper use of legal databases while using citation protocols.
