Scope and Summary of Primary Responsibilities

The Marketing & Communications Lead is the primary storyteller of the association. They execute, maintain and evaluate all day-to-day marketing activities, ensuring that all tactics align with the broader strategy. This role bridges strategic direction with tactical execution, collaborating with departments to bring campaigns to life. This position is responsible for supporting the departmental goal of fostering a positive reputation for and increasing awareness of CANS and the construction industry.

Accountabilities

  • Deliver timely and engaging marketing and communications materials that support organizational priorities.
  • Uphold brand standards and ensure consistency across all internal and external communications.
  • Effectively manage digital platforms to enhance brand visibility, reputation, and increase audience engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to translate strategic direction into effective campaigns and materials.
  • Maintain coordinated project execution across campaigns, events, and services in a fast-paced environment with overlapping priorities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This position entails, but is not limited to the following:

Strategic Marketing & Communications

  • Develop and execute integrated marketing and communications plans that support organizational and departmental goals.
  • Analyze campaign performance and refine strategies to maximize impact.
  • Maintain and evolve the organization's voice and brand positioning to engage target audiences.

Brand Stewardship & Marketing Design

  • Ensure consistent application of brand standards across all content, platforms, and promotional materials.
  • Design marketing materials and visual assets for digital, print, and promotional use.

Content Development

  • Research, write and edit compelling content for web, email newsletters, social media, member communications, and promotional materials, for CANS and affiliated brands (ie: Building Futures for Youth (BFY))
  • Manage content calendar and ensure a cohesive content strategy across channels.
  • Plan and develop multimedia content to support storytelling and engagement.

Digital Marketing & Platform Management

  • Maintain and update website, ensuring timely updates in alignment with brand standards and member needs.
  • Create, schedule, and monitor social media content to drive engagement and raise visibility.
  • Plan, execute, and analyze email marketing campaigns using digital tools and metrics.

Media, Advocacy & Industry Relations

  • Monitor media for industry updates and share relevant content with stakeholders.
  • Support creation of media releases, backgrounders, and media kits, as needed.
  • Strengthen relationships with external partners, sponsors, and industry stakeholders through strategic message and branding.

Internal Collaboration & Project Support

  • Collaborate with the Manager, Marketing & Communications and internal teams to assess marketing needs and deliver strategic, branded solutions.
  • Lead marketing projects from concept through execution, managing timelines and vendors as needed.
  • Support live event coverage (e.g., photography, video, social media) to boost visibility and audience engagement.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Strong copywriting and editing skills across formats (web, email, social, print, etc.).
  • Strong graphic design (particularly layout and marketing design) and high-level of comfort with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail, proofreads carefully and checks design files, links, and formatting.
  • Advanced knowledge of social media management software and social media platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of website content management systems, specifically WordPress.
  • Talented storyteller and confidence tailoring messages for different audiences.
  • Ability to create high-quality visual content, including short-form video.
  • Highly developed organizational and time-management skills.
  • High level of organization and comfort with multi-tasking and coordinating multiple projects with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to plan, manage and evaluate multiple communications and marketing projects, typically involving input from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to research, interpret and convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Experience working with internal stakeholders, translating their needs into clear deliverables.
  • Experience coordinating external vendors (suppliers, printers, etc.).
  • Demonstrated commitment to experiential, lifelong learning, and career development.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism, or other relevant education combined with related work experience, training, or expertise.
  • Three years of experience in a marketing, communications, or public relations role.

Working Conditions

  • Mainly indoor office environment.
