The Halifax Regional Centre for Education is accepting applications for the Substitute List for the 2025-2026 school year. The daily rate of pay is $244.86.
New applicants must follow the steps below to be considered for substitute teaching:
1. Apply online to the competition number noted on the Substitute Teacher job posting. You are required to create and submit an online resume to apply.
2. Once your application is reviewed and validated, you will receive an email that contains a Docusign link to the required forms to be employed with HRCE. In addition to these forms, the following documentation will be required to upload to the Docusign link you receive to your email ( partial submissions will not be accepted and documents must be uploaded via the Docusign link sent to you by email ).
- Two written references from individuals who have observed the quality of your teaching (i.e. cooperating teacher, principal or university supervisor/advisor)
- An original or copy of original course transcripts from your University or College in support of your teaching license and BEd
- Void Cheque or Direct Deposit Form from your Banking Institution
- A current Criminal Records Check . Employees working in schools in a position of trust or authority must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (please print this letter and submit it with your VSS application).
Checks must be issued within six months of employment start date and are available online via https://secure.tritoncanada.ca/v/public/landing/HalifaxPoliceService/home or from your local Police or RCMP detachment.
- Child Abuse Register (CAR) Search Results - issued within six months of employment start date (you will be mailed your CAR results to provide to HRCE as part of your new hire package). CAR applications may be made online https://beta.novascotia.ca/apply-child-abuse-register-search
Once all required documents have been submitted and reviewed, applicants will be added to the Halifax Regional Centre for Education Substitute Teacher List. You will receive an email once your EasyConnect account is ready to access at which time you are eligible to begin accepting assignments.
French candidates must also complete a successful interview with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education French Program Consultants who will assess the candidate's competency in French (oral and written).
