Position Details:

Position: Full-Time Site Supervisor

Site: London Public Library – Central Branch

Site Address: 215 Dundas Street, London, ON N6A 6H9

Overtime Method: Averaging Agreement – calculating after 88 hours bi-weekly

Hours: 2 week Rotating Schedule

Week #1 – Monday to Friday 0900-1700hrs

Week #2 – Tuesday to Saturday 0900-1700hrs

Position Overview

  • Control, oversee and direct the activities of Site Guards
  • Motivate and manage the performance of security staff to ensure that the performance of all Guards is of the highest quality and complies with requirements
  • Liaise with the London Public Library management and Community Agencies with regard to any security issues and implement instructions and temporary post orders as necessary
  • Assist in developing policies for continuous improvement to services to enhance services
  • Orientate and Train: Provide appropriate orientation and training
  • Assign Work: Assign special assignment duties to guards ensuring they are qualified and trained for the task
  • Scheduling: Create and manage the work schedule for the department
  • Corrective Actions: Address performance problems through the Paladin performance management procedures
  • Incident Reports: Review and sign-off on all incident reports created each shift by Security
  • Emergency Response: Emergency Team Representative to actively monitor site conditions and assist with plant evacuation process

Duties include

  • Operating, accessing and occasionally monitoring the video surveillance equipment
  • Monitoring and responding to alarm systems
  • Maintain a high standard of civility, deportment and appearance and guards shall proactive a philosophy of compassion and de-escalation
  • Supporting staff, volunteers, tenants and Library patrons by knowing and understanding the Library's Rules of Conduct and being able to apply these rules in a fair, dignified and positive manner.
  • Reporting Incidents using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool
  • Resolving incidents according to the Library's guidelines, instructions, procedures, and reporting on incidents according to established procedures
  • Protecting all persons (including public, staff, volunteers, on-site contractors, tenants) and property in the event of medical, fire, disaster, severe weather, bomb threat, evacuation and other emergencies
  • Functioning as the Primary First Aid service provider at the Central Library. This might include the ability to administer a blocking medication such as Naloxone and use of devices such as automated external defibrillators (AED), and
  • All Emergency occurs are to be reported to the Library as soon as possible. A written incident report, using the Library's Incident Reporting Tool, shall be provided to the Library on any or all minor/major incidents

Preferred skills/qualifications

  • Valid Ontario Security Guard Licence (required)
  • Valid First Aid & CPR certificate
  • Exceptional Customer Service Skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
