JOB SUMMARY :

Reporting to the Department Head of Psychiatry and the relevant medical director, the incumbent is a specialist in understanding the biological, psychological, and social factors of human experience that affect the etiology, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and recovery of mental, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral disorders, occurring alone or in conjunction with other medical problems.

This person is responsible for assessing and diagnosing mental disorders and treating and advocating for people with such disorders at all stages of their lives. They work with patients in emergency, urgent and non-urgent situations. The psychiatrist's activities are rooted in the physician-patient relationship and they take place in various settings and with culturally diverse communities.

Psychiatric assessment aims to prevent and treat mental, emotional, cognitive and behavioural disorders and foster the recovery of people who suffer from them.

The incumbent is also required to participate in research activities in their field of practice. They will take an active part in teaching activities in their department, in close collaboration with the Centre de formation m?dicale du Nouveau-Brunswick.

REQUIREMENTS:

Degree from a recognized medical school and residency granting a licence in internal medicine.

A recognized medical school is a school that meets the following criterium:

    • Accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) (in the United States);

OR

  • Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick;
  • Active membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent liability insurance association;
  • Membership with the New Brunswick Medical Society;
  • Privileges with Vitalit? Health Network;
  • Registration with New Brunswick Medicare;
  • One to three years' experience will be considered an asset;
  • Any other combination of training and experience deemed relevant and equivalent could be considered;
  • Ability to remain calm;
