The Senior Manager, Donor Research & Analytics' role is part of the Philanthropy Donor Experience Team. This role will lead a team of analytics professionals and prospect researchers to provide tools, information, and education for Philanthropy staff, allowing them to make full use of the data and information available from Philanthropy's various databases and information sources. They are also responsible for providing direction in developing metrics, KPIs, and other methods of monitoring and evaluating Canadian Red Cross fundraising related activities. They will engage senior business partners to dissect business problems, conduct research and analysis, generate ideas, and provide recommendations for strategic and tactical analytical solutions to business problems. They provide advice on the use and availability of benchmarking information, as well as the design and execution of statistical experiments to expand the base of knowledge for Philanthropy.

They provide responsive, accurate, and precise donor intelligence and information that informs the decision-making of fundraisers so that a desired plan of action is confirmed; and identifies prospects whose connections, interest, capacity or philanthropic inclination predispose them to support the fundraising priorities of the Canadian Red Cross.

In this role, you will:

  • Be accountable for the use of advanced analytics, and the execution of technology and other business intelligence tools within Philanthropy.
  • Be accountable for the ethical use of data and information on Canadian Red Cross's donors and customers, including validating the performance and ethical construction of internal and external (vendors') analytical models. This is done primarily with an eye on protecting donors' and customers' rights and privacy but also considering possible reputational risks to the organization
  • Be accountable for the strategic management of high-level prospects across relationship fundraising channels, including Prospect Clearance, timely access to prospect information (profiles, etc), and providing strategic advice on moves management for key prospects
  • Develop and run an ongoing Data Literacy program for Philanthropy in coordination with the Training team
  • Oversee team activities, builds out pipeline of work, and monitors team performance
  • Coach team members for improved performance of their work
  • Guide team members in their professional development to successfully grow their careers
  • Participate in disaster planning, preparation and response, as required.

What we are looking for:

  • University degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Information Science, Library Sciences or other related field
  • Minimum 7 years' experience as part of a Marketing or Fundraising team
  • Minimum 7 years' experience managing a team of Data Analysts / Data Scientists or Prospect Researchers
  • Statistical concepts and experimental design
  • Data science software, Python preferred
  • Machine learning concepts
  • Data engineering best practices and tools, experience with Databricks an asset
  • Microsoft Suite of products
  • Data visualization tools, Power BI in particular
  • Fundraising Databases (Raisers Edge/BBCRM experience an asset)
  • Commercial and public online services such as iWave PRO, INK Research, Imagine Canada, Marquis Who's Who, Dow Jones, SEDAR, BIG Online
  • Prospect lifecycle, and moves management best practices
  • Relevant privacy legislation and ethical obligations under the Donor Bill of Rights and APRA's ethics and professional standard
  • SQL
  • Data literacy best practices
  • Fundraising principles and best practices
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required, fluency in French an asset
  • Ability to effectively develop strong cross-functional working relationships, evidenced by a track record of teamwork and collegiality, building relationships within and beyond the Philanthropy department
  • Ability to analyze business problems and suggest new approaches as appropriate
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to focus and concentrate intensely on a single problem for a long time
  • Ability to quickly comprehend issues as presented and offer solutions

Working Conditions:

  • Primarily in a hybrid work arrangement.
  • Regular exposure to computer screens and keyboards while sitting at a desk for extended periods.
  • Occasional overtime, evening, or weekend work is required to meet project deadlines, support meetings/events, or meet operational needs such as disaster appeals
  • This position will require occasional travel to attend meetings/conferences, support operational needs, and respond to emergencies.
  • Ability to adapt and realign one's own role and that of team members to contribute to a crisis/emergency situation.
  • Provide disaster relief and/or emergency field operational support in a large-scale emergency, where staff numbers are compromised, or additional resources are required.
  • Flex time may be necessary.
  • The majority of the work is performed in an environment which is mostly clean and comfortable.
