Senior Materials Technician
Are you an experienced Materials Technician looking to progress your career? We're looking for a Senior Materials Technician to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in our Halifax, NS office.

You're an ideal candidate if you have:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in materials testing.
- The reliability to collect precise field data that engineers can trust for million-dollar decisions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills needed to convey technical ideas clearly.
- The adaptability to represent GEMTEC professionally with clients, developers, or contractors.
- The ability and willingness to work under varied weather conditions.
- The ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime, as required.
A typical day on the job might look like:
- Collecting samples and perform laboratory and field testing of various construction materials, such as concrete, asphalt, soils, aggregates, etc., to determine material properties and quality.
- Testing of fresh concrete/grout/mortar and casting of laboratory specimens.
- Compaction testing of soil, aggregates, and asphalt concrete.
- Conducting inspections and assessments of construction sites, document findings, and provide detailed reports on test results, including analysis and recommendations, for use by project managers and engineers.
- Maintaining effective communication with project teams, providing regular updates on field activities and findings.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintaining and calibrate testing equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Adhering to health and safety protocols, promoting a safe working environment.
- Adhering to all company policies.
- Performing other duties as required.

Your background and what you bring:
- A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field, is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of relevant testing methods and procedures, including ASTM and CSA standards.
- CCIL certifications in testing of asphalt, concrete, aggregates, and soils.
- A valid driver's license
