Regional Registered Nurse II - NS 34, $49.17- $60.99 per hour plus the applicable Labrador Allowance;

About the Role:
The purpose of this position is to provide primary care (preventative, health promotion, supportive, rehabilitative, and curative) and emergency services to clients. The position offers an excellent opportunity to advance nursing knowledge and decision-making skills while managing a generalized primary health care program by working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. The Regional Registered Nurse II /Nurse Practitioner role includes components of clinical practice, education, consultation, research, preceptorship and functions in accordance with NL Health Services' mission, vision and values. The RN II is the administrator, primary health care provider and on-site supervisor. The Regional Registered Nurse II/Nurse Practitioner is responsible for organizing the work schedule of all members of staff and for maintaining standards. The Regional Registered Nurse II /Nurse Practitioner reports to Clinical Nurse Manager.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an approved/recognized school of nursing program is required; Nurse Practitioner program is required for NP applicants;
- Current and continuing practicing licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is required;
- Completion of an Outpost Program or other education/certification (e.g. health assessment course) is an asset;
- 2 years? experience as an acute care nurse with preference for Emergency Care, ICU experience, regional or outpost nursing within the past five years;
- The successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check;
In addition to the following:
- Current certification in BCLS and/or First Aid;
- Successful completion of the Breastfeeding Essentials Course or willing to complete during orientation;
- Class V Driver?s license;
- Successful completion of NRP, ACLS and TNCC, or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by employer);
- Successful completion of the Medevac course or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by employer);
- Successful completion of CTAS or willingness to complete (within timeframe designated by employer);
- Breastfeeding education/course;
- Preference will be given to the candidate with current ER experience and/or recognized post basic course in Emergency Nursing;
Duties (Include but not limited to):
- Arranging and conducting clinics for primary care purposes including assessing, diagnosing and prescribing in accordance with professional, provincial and organizational standards, policies and clinical practice guidelines;
- Coordinating treatment plans based on ongoing assessments, client and family response and outcomes, consulting with physician or nurse practitioner if required care is outside of provider?s scope of practice and competencies;
- Assesses clients? needs leading to a continuum of appropriate services in public health & home/community care, including prenatal, healthy beginnings/long term care, child health, preschool, school health programs, wellness promotion, parenting, breastfeeding, travel and lifestyle clinics, routine immunization clinics, communicable disease surveillance, curative interventions, end of life care, rehabilitation, long term care support, support of family caregiver;
- Dispenses medications in accordance with professional, provincial and organizational standards, policies and clinical practice guidelines;
- Coordinating medical follow-up (e.g. referrals as appropriate; facilitating transition from hospital to community; and acting as a liaison between the client and various health care providers);
- Coordinating quarterly client case management meetings with all health care providers to develop care plans for patients with complex needs;
- Consults with the assigned physician and reports to the RN II for administrative/management issues;
- Ensuring quality assurance standards and audits are maintained;
- Oversees monthly reports including financial, community referrals statistics;
- Emergency on-call may be required;
- Provide relief in other sites as required;
- Directs all staff by delegating duties and responsibilities. Organizing work schedules including participating with the Clinical Nurse Manager in the approval process of leave in accordance with the guidelines established by NLHS;
- Participates in staff annual performance reviews in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Manager;
- Participates in professional development and lifelong learning;
- May be required to work alone;
- Other related duties as required;
