Halifax Water is accepting applications for one (1) term Engineering Information Technician I (term - approximately 15 months) in the Information & Technology Services Group. The Engineering Information Technicians assists in the maintenance, updating, retrieval, display and dissemination of record information in its many formats within Halifax Water (hard copy plans, card indexes, GIS database or other applications) as well as production of engineering drawings and sketches. - Produces record drawings from field notes, sketches, electronic field information that relate to all water utility work for permanent records.
- Prepares engineering design and record drawings for the Engineering Department applying existing standards to obtain consistency and quality on output.
- Researches (from hard copy and GIS information) and delivers water system information to HRWC departments and outside individuals or agencies.
- Maintains filing system of record drawings and information by numbering, indexing and storing all plans received.
- Updates and revises the digital Geographic Information System (GIS) database from field notes, sketches, engineering drawings and digital field information.
Minimum qualifications for this position include:
- Minimum qualifications for the Engineering Information Technician I level include an NSCC diploma in drafting or an equivalent combination of related training and experience. A recognized course in GIS or related training is also required, along with one year of related experience, preferably in a civil engineering field.
- Past work experience in a GIS environment, strong computer skills and general knowledge of water distribution and wastewater/stormwater collection systems is considered an asset.
- As an ideal candidate, you demonstrate the ability to perform high quality, detailed work in a steady paced environment.
