The Department of Modern Languages at MSVU invites applications for the position of Language Lab Supervisor.

Classification: Permanent 11 Month, Part-time (4 Days/Week) Sessional NSGEU, Level 7 Position
Salary: $47,558 per annum [Step Progression: $47,558 to $55,782]

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Chair of Modern Languages, the Language Lab Supervisor coordinates the MSVU Language Lab which supports the teaching of French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese. The supervisor's tasks include: hiring student language lab monitors with the Chair, and supervising them. Creating and finding appropriate pedagogical activities for use in the Language Lab (virtual and "real"). Maintain and develop the Moodle page for the Language Lab. Seeing that equipment is maintained and renewed (with the help of the Mount's IT&S office.) Providing technical assistance to students and fulfilling faculty needs regarding Language Lab materials. Reporting back to faculty on a regular basis. Creating a helpful and supportive environment in the Language Lab for students and faculty. Organizing cultural events in the lab and putting the required materials in place. Supervising student societies within the department.

Qualifications

A bachelor in a related field (preference for a French major or equivalent) and 3 years related experience. Demonstrated experience in helping with language acquisition is required for this position. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Native or near native fluency in French is required. Basic knowledge of Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese would be an asset, as well as demonstrated knowledge of pedagogical concepts and previous experience supervising, scheduling, and payroll processing staff.

Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, creativity, and problem-solving skills are required. As is effective oral and written communication. Demonstrated advocacy for diversity and inclusion and initiative in creating opportunities to celebrate cultural events and/or holidays. Experience using language-acquisition software and online technologies is required. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and have an aptitude for, or previous experience, using business enterprise systems such as Colleague and SharePoint.
