Job Summary
This position works within the Nurse Practitioner's (NP) scope of practice in the following category of practice: (Adult or Family/All Ages). This position will support Nurse Practitioners working within Opioid Treatment Hubs provincially by providing coverage and relief as well as providing additional supports that may be needed. This is an advance practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients including, but not limited to prescribing opioid agonist therapies, health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions; treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses; and identifying health risks and needs within a holistic model.
This position involves the planning and provision of both generalized and advanced nursing services. The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive care to clients using principles of harm reduction and primary health care within a health promotion, population health and self-help framework. This work involves treating those requiring medical withdrawal management involving withdrawal protocols, as well as the initiation of suboxone and/or methadone on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. In the provision of comprehensive primary health care services, the Nurse Practitioner collaborates with an interdisciplinary heath care team, including community/hospital physicians.

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books and supplies.
Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.
Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.
Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.
Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of NL (CRNNL) and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner Adult or Family/All Ages.
A minimum of five years clinical experience in the last seven in mental health and/or addictions is required.
Current BCLS Certification is required.
Possess or granted the authority to prescribe suboxone and methadone by CRNNL, or eligible to apply for authorization to prescribe suboxone/methadone by CRNNL.
Possessed strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management and teamwork.
Demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills.
