With funding support provided through the Canada Research Chair EDI Stipend program, we are currently looking to fill the position of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Project Officer to join our Graduate Studies and Research team to engage in an 8-month project.

Job Information and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Research and receiving operational direction from the Director, Diversity Inclusion and Wellness, the EDI Project Officer will work in support of strengthening equity, diversity, and inclusion matters related to the research enterprise. The position will play a key role in the implementation of EDI related projects including the Employment Systems Review, Comparative Analysis, and Environmental Scan leading to the development of the 2024 SMU Canada Research Chairs Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan.

Key duties will include:

  • Assist in the implementation and completion of an employment systems review environmental scan and comparative analysis.
  • Support the development of a revised or updated SMU Canada Research Chairs Action Plan.
  • Work with the Canada Research Chairs EDI Advisory Committee to deliver the SMU Canada Research Chairs EDI Action Plan.
  • Assist with other related projects and initiatives including data collection and analysis.

Experience and Education Requirements

To be the successful Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Project Officer you will have:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • Knowledge of Employment Equity and Human Rights Legislation
  • Awareness of the context in which the university operates.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
