Deputy Chief Family Medicine Obstetrics
Part-Time Term Position: 3 years

Definition of work:
Responsible to the Department Chief Family Medicine and Medical Director Primary Care, the Deputy Chief Family Medicine Obstetrics collaborates with the Department Chief and Medical Director Primary Care to provide leadership and support for the regional program, assisting in the effective organization, management, and functioning of the Medical Staff within the Family Medicine department. In accordance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, the Deputy Chief supports the Department Chief and Medical Director regarding appointments, re-appointments, remediation, discipline, clinical standards, quality improvement, academic matters and delivery of care.
In this progressive leadership role, the Deputy Chief Family Medicine Obstetrics aligns with Central Health's values, mission, vision, strategic, and financial plans, and is committed to working collaboratively with the Department Chief, Medical Director Primary Care, and Administrative staff to build effective leadership partnerships. The Deputy Chief actively participates on departmental, program and/or Central Health Committees as required.
The Deputy Chief Family Medicine Obstetrics will have superior communication and engagement skills with the ability to build and maintain effective collaborative working relationships and to coach and develop others. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Work with the Department Chief and Medical Director to update plans for physician resources, space, supplies, instruments, and equipment
* Collaborate with and assist the Department Chief and Medical Director in the appointment, reappointment, privileging, remediation, and discipline processes
* Assist the Department Chief and Medical Director to develop/maintain a physician resource plan
* Assist the Department Chief and Medical Director in physician recruitment, orientation, and retention within the Department
* Assist the Department Chief and Medical Director to develop, establish, and maintain quality assurance, quality improvement, patient safety, risk management, and utilization activities within the Department
* Participate, with all Department members, in the Departmental multidisciplinary quality improvement management programs
* Assist the Department Chief and Medical Director to address matters related to professional and ethical conduct; continuing professional development; and teaching and research
* Assist the Department Chief and Medical Director with overall management of the Department, including acting as Chief during short term absences and call coverage schedules
* When required, liaise with the Chief Obstetrics & Gynecology and Site Lead Obstetrics & Gynecology to ensure that best practices, policies, and procedures are followed
The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
* Current, or eligibility for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador
* College of Family Physicians of Canada certification is an asset, but not required
* Satisfy credentialing requirements of Central Health
* Formal physician leadership training and/or equivalent experience
* Complete education in quality and patient safety as required
* A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required
