Job Description

Therapeutic Recreation Volunteer - (All Sites)

Want to help children or adults recover from physical injuries or adapt to their disability? Want to help older adults maintain a sharper mind? If you answered yes to these questions, volunteering in Eastern Health's Therapeutic Recreation Program is the role for you!

Therapeutic Recreation uses treatment, education, and recreation services to help people with illness, disabilities, and other conditions to develop and use their leisure in ways that improve their health, independence, and overall well-being. Volunteers enhance therapeutic recreation services by assisting staff in creating a more stimulating environment for clients, patients and/or residents. Throughout Eastern Health, therapeutic recreation provides services to clients, patients, and residents in Long Term Care, Adult Rehabilitation and Continuing Care, Children's and Women's Health and Mental Health and Addictions.

Volunteers can contribute to therapeutic recreation services in a variety of ways including: playing music, singing, being artistic (painting, photography, sculpture, knitting and drawing), assisting with community outings, playing trivia, movie nights, baking, and making patients feel important through quality one-to-one time.

Volunteer opportunities in therapeutic recreation are available at the below sites. If you are interested in being part of the volunteer team, please contact the volunteer coordinator at the site you are interested in volunteering (or apply through this posting).
