FACULTY OF NURSING

TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT TEACHING PROFESSOR - NURSE PRACTITIONER

The Faculty of Nursing at the University of New Brunswick invites applications from qualified individuals for a Tenure Track Assistant Teaching Professor: Nurse Practitioner position. This will be a full-time appointment. The position involves both in-person and alternative delivery methods for classroom, clinical and laboratory teaching responsibilities in the Master of Nursing Advanced Nurse Practitioner program and in the undergraduate program(s). This position includes a practice component at the Fredericton Downtown Community Health Centre.

A proven track record of clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner in primary health care is an expectation for the position. Prior teaching experience in primary health care, community and or population health is an asset. The Faculty of Nursing offers two graduate-level programs, the Master of Nursing Thesis/Report stream and the Nurse Practitioner program stream. The undergraduate program includes the Bachelor of Nursing 4-year program offered in Fredericton, and a two-year Bachelor of Nursing Accelerated Program (BNAP) offered at the Moncton site.

The Master of Nursing program is offered using a blended virtual, synchronous delivery approach with onsite clinical laboratory classes held at the Fredericton campus. The curriculum centered around five abilities that outline core expectations for graduate nursing education. The Nurse Practitioner stream prepares students to apply advanced nursing knowledge and research using a primary care model with clients across the lifespan in various settings. The Nurse Practitioner stream is designed to build on students' current Registered Nursing knowledge, skills, abilities and judgements to develop an expanded scope of practice consistent with the entry-level competencies for Nurse Practitioners as set out by the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB).

All UNB sites share a common undergraduate curriculum based on principles of primary health care, caring and social justice. Foundational to the curriculum are five abilities that are considered essential to working successfully in a primary healthcare environment. Outcomes for theory and clinical courses are intentionally designed and levelled across the program to ensure that graduates have developed the five requisite abilities. The integrated nature of our curriculum means that we can consider various areas of clinical and teaching expertise for this position.

Qualifications: Applicants must have a Master's in Nursing Nurse Practitioner degree. A PhD in nursing or related health discipline is an asset. A demonstrated ability to teach effectively is also expected. At least two years of full-time clinical practice as a Nurse Practitioner is required in primary health care. Applicants must be registered or eligible to obtain registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick (NANB). International applications must include evidence of completion of stages 1 and 2 of the NANB registration processes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for in-person classroom and or clinical teaching and coordination of clinical lab/courses. Responsibilities also include membership and participation in governance and decision-making in standing committees of the Faculty of Nursing. Scholarly work contributing to the scholarship of teaching and learning is an expectation of this role. The Faculty of Nursing has a partnership with the Fredericton Downtown Community Health Centre for Nurse Practitioner faculty to practice.

The position will commence July 1, 2023, dependent on availability of a successful applicant and subject to final budgetary approval. Electronic application packages should be received by March 27, 2023 and include a cover letter outlining the reasons for seeking the position, attributes you bring to the position, along with an up-to-date Curriculum Vitae, and a teaching philosophy. The names and addresses (both postal and email) of three referees of which one should be a direct supervisor are to be included. Completed application packages should be addressed to:
