This role will be based either in our Hackett's Cove, Nova Scotia operation, or Cornwall Ontario. There would then be some travel between locations.
A position has arisen for a Mechanical Designer/ Transducer Engineer. The successful candidate can look forward to a variety of challenges including:
Providing advice on sonar transducer design;
Using your knowledge, education, skills and ability to develop new sonar transducer and transducer array designs;
Suggesting improvements to legacy products;
Suggesting improvements to manufacturing processes;
Testing and evaluating products;
Developing new test procedures;
Analysing competing products;
Due to the size of the operation, the successful applicant will also have involvement in other areas of the business.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
Previous experience in transducer engineering;
A solid grounding in the fundamentals of mathematics, physics, engineering, material science and computer science;
In- depth knowledge of vector calculus, linear algebra, and the differential equations for acoustics;
Experience in modelling physical systems, in design of experiments, measuring data, statistics, plotting data and reporting results suitable for scientific and engineering purpose;
Knowledge of both mechanical and electrical engineering/physics;
Computer science knowledge and demonstrated capacity to learn specialty computer software. Must have experience with computer aided design and engineering, including finite element analysis;
General knowledge of manufacturing processes used in light industry, including computer aided manufacturing;
Knowledge and experience with computer-based measurement systems, especially sampling theory and fourier analysis;
Knowledge of analog electronics including operational amplifiers, antennas and filters;
Proficiency in AC circuit analysis;
Experience with multiple computer programming languages such as C, C++, Fortran, Java, LabView, Mathematica, MatlLab, and Excel;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks, often to tight deadlines;
Ability to work well with others and operate effectively in a team environment;
Ability to travel, both within Canada and potentially internationally;
Be a Graduate of a 4 year Engineering Program with 80% GPa in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering, or a Masters Degree in Applied Physics.
