Hours 70 bi-weekly (8-hour days; on call and standby required) Salary LX-40 ($90.01/hour (50.22 base rate plus 39.79 pensionable market differential) to $103.05/hour (63.26 base rate plus 39.79 pensionable market differential)

Job Summary
The Cancer Care Program of NL Health Services has a provincial mandate to deliver cancer care to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. It operates the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre (DHBMCC) in St. John's, and regional cancer centers in Corner Brook, Gander and Grand Falls. Currently, we are inviting applications for a Medical Physicist to join our clinical team in the main Cancer Centre in St. John's.

The Cancer Centre is fully equipped with four Linear Accelerators, an orthovoltage unit, an HDR Brachytherapy unit, two 4-D CT-Simulators, Eclipse Treatment Planning System and ARIA Radiation Oncology information system. The Medical Physics Department supports active clinical programs in IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SRS and HDR Brachytherapy. The Medical Physicists work closely with the team of Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists, Radiation Therapists, Medical Physics Assistants and Biomedical Engineering Technologists to ensure high quality Radiation Therapy.

The Medical Physicist will be responsible for the professional support for clinical services such as radiation safety, treatment planning, calibration of therapy machines and quality assurance. Candidates will be expected to participate in selecting, acceptance testing and commissioning of new radiation therapy equipment, and will have the opportunity to participate in the development and implementation of new technologies and/or techniques.

This position may involve travel to the satellite site in Corner Brook, NL.

Job Demands

Requires higher than normal levels of attentiveness or alertness for the health and safety of others when working with radioactive sources for medical purposes.
Required to work under time pressures and deadlines on a regular basis.

Job Qualifications
Successful completion of an accredited MSc or PhD in Medical Physics is required.
Certification in Radiation Oncology Physics by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (CCPM) is required or eligibility for Certification in Radiation Oncology Physics by the CCPM is required (eligible for Certification as a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or of the American Board of Medical Physics may be considered equivalent).
Demonstrated strong commitment to high clinical standards.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
