Job Information and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Alumni Officer Outreach will:

  • Build relationships with alumni and campus colleagues and identify strategic opportunities for alumni engagement particularly as it pertains to student and young alumni engagement.
  • Working closely with the governance teams related to the significant Sobey philanthropic investment in the Sobey School of Business, manage and advance, make recommendations and implement the Sobeys Scholars Network, a network that involves engagement of current student scholars and the cohort of alumni who were Sobey scholars, including updating and maintaining the website for this program.
  • Be the liaison between Advancement/Alumni and the Sobey School of Business, sitting on the events committee, to assist with faculty events and bring recommendations on speakers, volunteers, etc., as well as bring information back to Alumni for coding in the CRM database.
  • Oversee and manage the Alumni Office partnership with student leadership of SMUSA, and student societies, including Grad Class Committee, in close collaboration with Student Services.
  • Oversee, manage and strategic planning related to young alumni programming which includes the managing the networking platform SMU Café, the Alumni Ambassadors program, and partnerships with Career and Experiential learning and any other opportunities related to helping to further engage the cohort of young alumni (graduated the last ten years)
  • Work with and manage the Young Alumni Committee of volunteers, providing guidance and leadership on activities and events pertaining to that demographic, helping to implement accordingly.
  • Work closely with Office of Enrolment on recruitment initiatives involving alumni that help to leverage and lead to new student applications.
  • Organize and provide a high standard of customer service to support special Alumni Engagement meetings and events.
  • Advise on communications and marketing promotion to this cohort, identifying alumni that could be key promotors and/or volunteers and/or future or current suspects or prospects for fundraising.
  • Foster and strengthen relationships between alumni and the University.

Experience and Education Requirements

To be the successful Alumni Officer Outreach you will have:

  • University undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong project and event management skills with ability to manage concurrent projects with tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to take initiative where minimal direction is provided.
  • Relationship management required.
  • Experience working with university alumni an asset.
