Under the clinical supervision of the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist, the Physiotherapist Assistant supports the OT and PT services offered within Roseway Manor. The Physiotherapy Assistant reports directly to the Director of Facility and Resident Care. He/she is also responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of staff occupational health and safety initiatives, including staff training and support.
He/she must establish and maintain a positive working relationship with the residents and staff. Promote a person centered care approach by encouraging residents to exercise freedom of choice, to participate in programs, and enhance independence.
Monthly wheelchair and sling inspections
Weekly ROHO mattress/cushion inspections
Maintenance of medical equipment
Labelling, organizing, and keeping track of Red Cross inventory
Red Cross equipment audits as required by Red Cross
Assisting Occupational Therapist with Red Cross paperwork
Obtaining quotes from vendors for medical equipment
Submitting requests to replace damaged equipment
Cleaning and returning Red Cross equipment
Transfer and Lift training delivery to all staff
Initial assessment of resident transfer upon admission with RN supervision
Walking programs/individualized ROM exercise programs as PT/OT suggests
Completion of a recognized Occupational/Physiotherapy Assistant Program or be a Certified Continuing Care Assistant
Minimum of 1 year experience in Long Term Care
Current certification First Aid/CPR
Excellent verbal and written communications
Excellent interpersonal skills
Able to work with a minimum of supervision
Physical ability to assist in the transfer and the support of residents, must meet the expectations listed in the JSA
Excellent time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
Problem identification and problem resolution skills
High degree of resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability
Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to patient privacy
This position is full time (80 hrs biweekly).
