Designed to meet the needs of multiple events, Nova Scotia's Halifax Convention Centre offers over 120,000 square feet of flexible event space in the heart of downtown. The Halifax Convention Centre is part of the Nova Centre, a million-square-foot, mixed-use development that includes a hotel, office towers, and retail space. It is the largest integrated development project in the province's history.
The Halifax Convention Centre, managed by Events East Group, is now inviting applications for the position of Chef de Partie with our Culinary team.
Role Description:
The Chef De Partie will report to the Department Chefs and assist in leading the day-to-day culinary operations with regard to event menu design, creation, and execution. Main responsibilities are to assist in aspects of "mise en place" preparation among all culinary stations (i.e. hot, cold, pastry as required) including high quality menu production, presentation and safety, and resource efficiencies. The ideal candidate must work well independently while contributing to a greater team and enjoy the challenge of excelling under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
Requirements:
- Culinary leadership and experience with menus servicing upwards of 200 event guests
- Must be willing to move to other departments (ie: hot kitchen, pastry) as per business requirements from time to time.
- Able to work standing for long periods of time, to perform repetitive tasks, lift up to 50lbs, push or pull wheeled equipment up to 200lbs (assisted)
- Must be legally permitted to work in Canada.
- Reliable, friendly individuals with a strong attention to detail and high standards of personal hygiene and grooming regarding to food safety
- Global cuisine experience as well as menu development considered an asset
- Must be available to as required work varying shifts, including evening, weekends, and holidays.
Education & Experience
- Red Seal Certification or international equivalent required to qualify for Chef De Partie
- 5+ years' experience in volume culinary production, with some supervisory experience preferred
