The College is currently seeking a dynamic individual for the term position of Laboratory Support, School of Health and Wellness. This position is from August 2022 until June 2023, with the possibility for extension or to become regular.

The Laboratory Support is an important member of an academic team, supporting students and faculty with a safe and effective learning environment. This position is responsible for maintaining all equipment and supplies that are used in labs including ordering, replenishing, and ensuring inventory control. Using a variety of appropriate strategies, this position will strive to ensure that all safety rules and regulations are strictly adhered to in accordance with the NB Occupational Health & Safety Act and relevant manufacturer specifications.
The programs you will be involved with include Practical Nurse and Personal Support Worker, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Laboratory Assistant, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacy Technician, and Community Pharmacy Assistant.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Working to maintain a culture of health and safety, using student appropriate strategies to ensure compliance and collaborating with the academic team to ensure compliance.
- Maintaining comprehensive repair and maintenance schedule on all instructional equipment in various labs.
- Issuing equipment to staff and students during scheduled classes.
- Maintaining records of supplies and equipment issued and returned.
- Marking and identifying equipment, using identification tags, stamps, or electric marking tools.
- Enforcing manufacturer specified equipment or procedural safety rules and consulting, collaborating, and communicating with faculty, staff and students on matters pertaining to safety concerns.
- Following and adhering to all given instructions including work procedures, manufacturer operational and maintenance requirements, Standard Operating procedures (SOPs), and safety requirements.
- Completing visual checks to confirm that students are donning personal protective equipment as required and solving issues in an effective and collaborative manner.
- Assembling and issuing of requisitions for lab classes including segregating of course specific materials and continuous small-ware inventory management
- In consultation with the Program Coordinating Instructor, ordering supplies and equipment.
- Maintaining data and quality control records.
- Maintaining a clean and organized lab space.
- Assisting with other duties as required.
- A Certificate, Diploma and/or Degree in a health related field with recent and related work experience and/or acceptable combination of education and experience.
- General knowledge of laboratory instrumentation will be considered an asset.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills required with the ability to coordinate tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
- Positive and professional attitude.
- Must be safety conscious, organized and focused on cleanliness and proper procedure.
- A valid New Brunswick driver's license as some travel will be required.
