The salary scale for Professional Support 1 is based on twelve steps that range from $52,683.69 - $73,652.02. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $63,246.64 annually.

Based on public health guidelines, NSCC has returned to more in-person learning, supports and services. You may be required to work on campus, remotely or a combination of both as the Academic Year progresses. This will be clarified further upon hire.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Strait Area Campus Principal and working with the Strait Area management and administrative teams, you will support and coordinate the logistics and outreach for the A'paqt project across Nova Scotia.

You will provide community outreach and stay in close contact with women's groups, Mi'kmaq communities, the Commercial Marine industry, professional marine groups, and government agencies. You will be critical in defining the needs of students and promoting partnerships. The role will encompass academic and administrative responsibilities, including coordinating program delivery, tracking student success and the effective management of physical resources at various sites.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant Degree or Community College Diploma in areas such as Social Services, Community Development and Business Administration.

  • You have a minimum of two (2) years of recent and related occupational experience in project coordination and management, community development, communications and facilitation.

  • Occupational experience that includes experience in the Marine sector would be considered an asset.

  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and E-mail. Experience using PeopleSoft would be considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • Specific expertise in the areas of facilitation, coaching and student success, job search techniques and related career placement experience would be considered an asset.

  • Experience working within a Mi'kmaq community would be considered an asset.

  • Experience with writing proposals and reports would be considered an asset.

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
