Position Summary:
The Recreation Programmer reports directly to the Director of Recreation Therapy and Volunteer Services and is responsible for assessing residents, planning, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs, and documenting the residents' participation and progress. The Recreation Programmer helps supervise volunteers.
Responsibilities:
Assesses the resident's leisure interests and records the results through recreation leisure assessments.
Work cooperatively and collaboratively with the inter-disciplinary team in carrying out the resident's intervention plan and communicating resident's information to the interdisciplinary team.
Communicates observations, developments, and the resident's status to the appropriate health care team member.
Identifies and set goal(s) and objectives for the residents.
Develops individual and group recreation programs.
Facilitates working relationships with other local and community organizations that benefit residents.
Provides recreation activities on evenings, weekends, statutory holidays, and organization's special events as required.
Implements and facilitates therapeutic intervention for residents.
Provide specialized programming for targeted residents with increasingly complex physical and cognitive/mental health needs and associated behavioural issues.
Observes and documents resident's participation and progress in Point Click Care (electronic health record keeping system).
Evaluates individual and group recreation programs.
Maintains a safe environment, supplies and equipment.
Participates in continuous quality improvement strategies.
Research new and creative program regularly.
Participates in applicable in-services and educational sessions for continued professional development.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Specifications and Qualifications
Minimum two-year post-secondary diploma in Therapeutic Recreation/Leisure Studies or an undergraduate degree in Recreation.
Ability to work collaboratively with health care team.
Creative, innovative and sincerely enjoy working with seniors.
Experience working with people with dementia is considered an asset.
Must have basic computer skills.
Experience working in a health care setting.
