VON is looking for full-time & part-time Continuing Care Assistants who have strong critical thinking skills, who enjoy continuous learning, working independently and to their full scope. Whether you are an experienced CCA or a new graduate, we have opportunities for you.
Our Continuing Care Assistants:

  • Work with clients in their homes to provide personal care
  • Assist with daily living activities, such as grooming, dressing and bathing
  • Help with patient mobility and transfers
  • Respite care
  • Plan and prepare meals
  • Help with patient mobility and transfers
  • Light household duties
  • Monitor and maintain household safety

  • Continuing Care Assistant Certification (CCA
  • PSW, HSW, etc. certification from another province who are enrolled in or are eligible to enroll in the Nova Scotia CCA Recognizing Prior Learning (PLAR) Program
  • Internationally educated nurses (PLAR may be required)
  • Students in nursing or CCA programs will also be considered
  • Able to communicate effectively with clients and families in a clear and effective manner that demonstrates respect, empathy and understanding
  • Strong assessment skills
  • Ability to work independently and problem solve
  • Ability to adjust to working in different social and economic environments
  • Current CPR/First Aid required
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is required
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or a Child Abuse Registry Check may be required
  • Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Not certified, but interested in starting a career as a CCA? There are some funding options available to you.
  • The Government of NS has announced a Bursary Program for CCA students enrolled in CCA programs through the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) or private career colleges. The deadline for bursary applications for private career colleges is December 31, 2020.
  • For CCA courses starting in January at NSCC Kentville and NSCC Truro, the deadline is January 29, 2021. Please contact the colleges directly for more information
  • The Department of Health and Wellness is providing funding to new registrations for the Recognized Prior Learning (RPL) Program for participants accepted into the program between March 1, 2020, and March 1, 2021. For more information please reach out to Cailleagh Sharple via:
