The Admissions Officer (AO), reporting to the Registrar of the company, is responsible for evaluating, assessing and processing student applications and determining admissibility to all University of Fredericton programs. The AO provides knowledgeable guidance and assistance to applicants and potential students that demonstrate excellent student-centered service. The AO works collaboratively with departmental staff, providing advice on the admissibility of potential applicants, and to ensure a smooth admissions process. The AO recommends improvements to the admission process and provides exceptional client-centered service on a consistent basis to all stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluates, assesses and processes student applications for admission to all programs according to established criteria.
  • Ensures accuracy and consistency in assessment processes.
  • Responds to telephone, email and in-person enquiries from applicants, students and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluates transcripts from other colleges and universities for transfer credit.
  • Communicates both positive and negative decisions to the applicant.
  • Identifies process and procedural challenges and contributes to finding efficiencies and improvements.
  • Collaborates and works with other departments on incoming applications.
  • Provides follow-up on start dates and new students with the Student Services team.
  • Provides high attention to detail regarding student files.
Qualifications

  • Good knowledge (Intermediate level) of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Results-oriented and intrapreneurial attitude and approach.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and work within strict deadlines.
  • Exceptionally well-organized and attentive to detail.
  • Detailed and accurate record-keeping.
  • A professional appearance and promotion of a positive company image.
  • A positive attitude and standard of ethics.
  • Maintains high level of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate admissions requirements, academic regulations, policies and procedures (desirable).
  • Knowledge of Canadian and international education systems (desirable).

Educational Requirements

  • Diploma in business administration.
  • 2-3 years of administration experience.
  • 2-3 years of admissions-related work experience in an academic setting (desirable).

Hours of work

This is a temporary full-time position (35 hours), under regular business hours to cover a period of maternity leave with the possibility of full-time permanent. The position is available in Fredericton, NB.
