Financial Analyst, Corporate Accounting

Clearwater Seafoods' Corporate Reporting & Accounting department requires a full time permanent Financial Analyst, Corporate Accounting.

Purpose of Position:

This position is responsible to analyze routine information for accuracy and business insight and to generate accounting entries and analysis that require data interpretation or professional judgement.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports to: Senior Corporate Accountant, Corporate Accounting

Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Review and post accruals and journal entries
  2. Perform fixed asset, general ledger, and inventory accounting
  3. Prepare remittances for EDC, VAT, and other government filings
  4. Reconcile intercompany and goods in transit accounts for all companies
  5. Prepare working papers supporting the monthly close process and month end balances
  6. Support the business with analysis of reports
  7. Perform other related duties as required
  8. Supervise and coach clerk level employees

Duties & Accountabilities:

  • Journal entry work:
    • Prepare and enter journal entries
    • Review journal entries for completeness and accuracy
    • Post journal entries
  • Input sheet generation
    • Generate input sheets
    • Analyze input sheets for completeness and accuracy
  • Ensure GL account integrity
    • Prepare account reconciliations and working papers that tie out to GL balance
    • Review account reconciliations and working papers for accuracy and completeness
    • Follow up on issues identified and actively seek solutions to problems until resolved
  • Weekly specific GL Account review:
    • Review intercompany reconciliations
    • Review goods in transit (GIT)
    • Review internal orders
  • Prepare month end schedules and reporting
  • Fixed asset work:
    • Follow up with operations to determine when fixed assets are ready to be depreciated
    • Ensure that fixed assets set up adhere to fixed asset policy
    • Ensure proper useful lives and appropriate master data is set up for fixed assets
  • Create balance sheet and income statement budgets for Annual Operating Plan (AOP)
    • Long term debt continuity
    • Fixed asset continuity
    • Interest expense schedule
    • Other schedules as required
  • Assist the quarter end and year end audits
    • Explain journal entry support
    • Create and explain schedules
  • Analysis for reporting and GL Accounts as required
  • Supervise and coach clerk level employees
    • Review work of clerk
    • Provide timely feedback on work
    • Assist in development of employees

Qualifications:

  • University business degree with Accounting major
  • CPA designation or working towards
  • 1-3+ years of relevant experience
  • SAP user knowledge is an asset
