To help meet growing business demands, Butterfield is seeking a Vendor Manager to join its expanding team in Halifax, NS.

The Vendor Manager will manage and coordinate IT vendor relationships, evaluate vendor strategy, identify gaps and recommend courses of action as it relates to vendor activities across the Butterfield Group. The successful candidate will assume ownership of IT vendor relationships, governance, processes and technologies to ensure effective delivery of the Group Vendor Management Office (VMO).

Responsibilities of the Vendor Manager will include, but are not limited to:

  • assisting in the development, execution and ongoing maintenance of a comprehensive strategy for Group IT that encompasses strategic procurement, service provider management and contract management
  • applying industry best practice to VMO activities
  • managing and directing Group relationships with IT vendors and service providers
  • assisting and leading the vendor selection process and negotiations for IT vendor-related projects and ensuring that contractual terms meet the Bank's requirements
  • managing all phases of contract management, including contract change control, legal, audit, compliance and risk management
  • negotiating favourable contractual terms and collaborate with legal advisors, where appropriate
  • maintaining and assisting in the RFI/RFP process to ensure that procurement is undertaken in accordance with the Bank's procurement policy and methodology
  • ensuring capacity, demand and financial management for IT vendor services
  • maintaining a robust database for IT vendor information
  • managing relevant IT vendor performance by establishing, implementing and reviewing their performance against key contract and best practice metrics
  • developing and managing relationships with Bank business leaders, departments, groups and personnel in relation to vendor service delivery, including vendor conflict and dispute resolution with respect to IT contracts and/or products
  • developing tools, policies, and processes related to VMO activities and supporting the business in their use
  • developing, implementing and maintaining new and existing VMO processes and ensuring that they are formally documented.
  • ensuring that effective incident/problem management is in place in relation to IT vendor management issues

The ideal candidate's experience and skills will include:

  • completion of a bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Legal or Technology Management, coupled with a minimum of five years' proven experience in vendor relationship management
  • demonstrated success in contract negotiations and strategic vendor development and implementation
  • supervisory/management experience having effectively lead people and projects within a fast-paced business environment
  • exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish relationships and work effectively with executives, managers, internal stakeholders and external organizations.
  • sound judgment, decisiveness and a customer service focus with the ability to build consensus
  • proven experience in financial services and technology fields is preferred
  • working knowledge of the frameworks regarding IT and Business controls, such as COSO, COBIT, ITIL and SSAE18/ISAE 3402
  • experience and working knowledge or privacy regulations and/or requirements (GDPR, PIPA)
