Our client is an established and respected supplier of engineered mechanical equipment and building systems, supporting commercial, institutional, and industrial construction projects throughout Alberta. Working closely with mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, and leading equipment manufacturers, the organization provides technical expertise and specialized solutions for a wide range of building applications.
We are seeking a technically capable and customer-focused Inside Sales Representative to join a collaborative team supporting the specification, selection, and supply of mechanical equipment for construction and building infrastructure projects.
This position combines technical sales support, equipment selection, project estimating, and customer relationship management. Working closely with outside sales representatives, project coordinators, engineers, contractors, and manufacturing partners, the successful candidate will play a key role in identifying appropriate equipment solutions, preparing accurate quotations, and supporting projects from initial design and bidding through order placement.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Technologist, Engineer-in-Training (EIT), or technically experienced HVAC professional looking to develop their career within the commercial mechanical equipment industry.
Responsibilities
Technical Sales & Equipment Selection
  • Support outside sales representatives in identifying and recommending appropriate mechanical equipment and HVAC solutions for commercial and institutional building projects.
  • Review engineering drawings, mechanical schedules, specifications, and project documentation to determine equipment requirements.
  • Assist consulting engineers and mechanical contractors with technical product selections, equipment applications, and performance requirements.
  • Utilize manufacturer-specific selection software to evaluate equipment performance, confirm specifications, and prepare technical submittals.
  • Interpret equipment performance curves, technical schematics, and product specifications to support accurate equipment selection.
  • Identify comparable or alternative equipment solutions that satisfy project specifications, performance requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to obtain technical information, confirm equipment capabilities, and resolve application-related questions.
Estimating, Quotations & Bid Preparation
  • Review construction drawings and specifications to identify mechanical equipment requirements and project opportunities.
  • Complete equipment takeoffs and prepare detailed quotations for commercial construction projects.
  • Work with outside sales representatives to establish competitive budget pricing and final project quotations.
  • Evaluate alternative products and competitive equipment specifications to identify solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Communicate with contractors, engineers, and suppliers to clarify incomplete specifications, technical discrepancies, or project scope.
  • Maintain accurate quotation records, bid documentation, and project-related correspondence.
  • Support timely preparation and submission of quotations in accordance with construction tender deadlines.
Customer & Manufacturer Coordination
  • Respond to technical inquiries from mechanical contractors, consulting engineers, and other industry customers.
  • Provide product information, technical documentation, equipment specifications, and application support.
  • Coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers regarding equipment availability, technical requirements, and product alternatives.
  • Assist customers with replacement equipment and parts inquiries, including product identification and compatibility.
  • Develop productive working relationships with customers, internal sales teams, and manufacturing partners.
  • Maintain high customer service standards through timely follow-up, accurate information, and effective problem resolution.
Project Handover & Documentation
  • Work closely with project coordination teams following successful project awards to ensure a smooth transition from quotation to order execution.
  • Verify equipment selections, approved specifications, pricing, and supporting documentation before procurement.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing technical submittals and equipment schedules.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies between quoted equipment, approved project requirements, and customer purchase orders.
  • Maintain organized electronic records and accurate project information within internal systems.
  • Contribute to improvements in quotation accuracy, workflow efficiency, and technical sales processes.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Building Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, hydronic heating and cooling, and mechanical building services.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, technical specifications, and construction documents.
  • Understanding of mechanical equipment performance characteristics, selection criteria, and system applications.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems and controls as they relate to mechanical equipment.
  • Experience using manufacturer equipment selection software, estimating tools, or technical quotation systems is an asset.
  • Previous experience in technical inside sales, HVAC equipment selection, mechanical estimating, engineering support, or construction-related sales is preferred.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook, CRM systems, and electronic document management.
  • Familiarity with commercial construction tendering, equipment submittals, and mechanical contractor requirements would be beneficial.
We encourage candidates with a strong mechanical engineering or technology background who are early in their careers to apply. Relevant technical aptitude, communication skills, and a willingness to develop specialized product knowledge will be valued.
