Industrial Electrical | Team Leadership | Edmonton, AB
Seeking a hands-on P.Eng to lead the electrical team at a well-established Edmonton engineering firm that designs, builds and commissions industrial projects across Canada and the US.
This is a new role, focused on leading a small team of electrical engineers, EITs, programmers and designers while still running your own projects and stamping engineering work. About 30 to 40% of the role is leading the team; the rest is engineering, project delivery and reporting to operations.
This opportunity is ideal for someone ready for their first supervisor title, or an experienced lead, who wants to stay close to the engineering.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of electrical engineers, EITs, programmers and electrical designers
- Plan workload across engineering and programming, and balance resources with mechanical leadership
- Run performance reviews, approve timesheets and support professional development
- Serve as the stamping engineer for drawings, specifications, reports and calculations
- Review, correct and approve the team's technical work
- Provide expertise in industrial electrical systems, controls and hazardous location applications
- Prepare proposals, estimates, schedules, budgets and forecasts
- Oversee procurement and construction alongside shop and field teams
- Support commissioning and troubleshooting on site and remotely
- Build relationships with clients, subconsultants, suppliers and contractors
- Keep the electrical team compliant with the safety program
Qualifications
- P.Eng in good standing with any Canadian provincial association, and willing to register with APEGA (EIT or P.Tech applicants will not be considered for this role, as the position requires stamping in multiple provinces)
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
- Strong industrial electrical background: three-phase power, distribution, MCCs, VFDs, grounding and bonding, instrumentation, PLCs and HMIs
- Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code; NEC an asset
- Experience in industrial troubleshooting, commissioning and field support
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers and EITs
- Experience with proposals, estimates, budgets and schedules
- Mitsubishi PLC experience an asset
- Hazardous locations experience (API 500/505) an asset
- Able to travel about 10% to sites across Canada, the US and potentially Mexico, with site stints no longer than two weeks
- Valid driver's licence and passport
- Legally authorized to work in Canada, no sponsorship required
Compensation
$125,000 to $160,000/year, based on experience. Open to hearing from those outside of the range, and what you are looking for.
Relocation support available for the right candidate.
Why This Is a Great Opportunity
- A new leadership role where you shape how the electrical team runs
- Stay hands on: most of your time is still engineering and project delivery
- See projects through from design to construction and commissioning, with in-house fabrication and construction
- Small firm (about 26 people) where your input is heard
- Extra hours are banked as flex time, plus per diem on site work
- Light travel, about 10%, with variety across Canada and the US
If your experience aligns strongly with what we are looking for, we encourage you to apply.
