About the Opportunity:

Newlands Group is partnering with an established residential real estate and development organization to recruit an Accounts Payable Representative to join its Finance & Accounting team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounts payable professional with experience in real estate, residential development, or property management who understands the financial processes involved in a project-driven environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, processing vendor invoices, and supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of a growing organization.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked with construction-related invoices, property expenses, subcontractors, or project-based payables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process, review, and code vendor invoices accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring appropriate general ledger and job or project allocations.
  • Match invoices against purchase orders, contracts, and supporting documentation where applicable.
  • Verify invoice approvals, resolve discrepancies, and follow up with internal departments and vendors to ensure timely payment.
  • Prepare and process payments in accordance with established payment schedules and company procedures.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and investigate outstanding balances, duplicate invoices, and payment discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate vendor records and ensure all accounts payable documentation is properly organized.
  • Assist with month-end closing activities, including accounts payable reconciliations, accruals, and reporting.
  • Support the tracking and allocation of project-related costs across properties and development projects.
  • Communicate with project managers, site personnel, and other internal stakeholders to obtain invoice approvals and resolve coding questions.
  • Assist with expense tracking, reporting, and other accounting-related duties as required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounts payable processes, accuracy, and efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Previous experience in an accounts payable or accounting support role, preferably within residential real estate, property development, property management, or construction.
  • Strong understanding of invoice processing, vendor reconciliations, payment cycles, and general ledger coding.
  • Experience handling project-related expenses, construction invoices, subcontractor invoices, or property operating costs is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with purchase orders, invoice approval workflows, and supporting documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP software.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a high volume of invoices while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with accounting colleagues and operational teams.
