Job Title: Fixed Plant Maintenance Planner

Reporting directly to the Mill Maintenance Superintendent, the Fixed Plant Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing safe, efficient, and executable maintenance work plans for the mill's fixed plant assets. The role plans both mechanical and electrical/instrumentation work, ensuring labour, materials, tools, technical information, permits, isolation requirements, and external services are identified and available after work is scheduled. Working closely with maintenance supervisors, trades, operations, reliability, supply chain, engineering, and contractors, the Planner supports commissioning, ramp-up, shutdowns, and steady-state operations through disciplined work management and effective use of the CMMS. You'll be part of a high-performing team where your ideas matter, your skills grow, and your work shapes the future of Eskay Creek.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Maintenance Planning and Scheduling:

  • Develop complete, field-executable job plans for corrective, preventive, predictive, and project maintenance on fixed plant mechanical and electrical/instrumentation assets.
  • Define job scope, work sequence, craft requirements, estimated labour hours, crew size, tools, lifting and access requirements, consumables, test equipment, permits, isolations, and quality-control steps.
  • Plan mechanical work including crushers, conveyors, screens, pumps, piping, tanks, process equipment, lubrication systems, and related structural components.
  • Plan electrical and instrumentation work including motors, variable-frequency drives, motor control centres, switchgear, power distribution, field instruments, control valves, analyzers, communication systems, PLC/DCS interfaces, and associated testing or calibration.
  • Conduct field walkdowns with supervisors, trades, operations, engineering, and vendors to validate job scope, site conditions, hazards, access, isolation points, and execution constraints.
  • Build and maintain job plan templates, task lists, maintenance routes, standard job plans, work instructions, and work packages in the CMMS.
  • Review incoming work requests for clarity, priority, asset identification, planning requirements, and readiness; return incomplete requests for clarification and convert approved requests into planned work orders.
  • Maintain a healthy, prioritized backlog and identify work that is ready to schedule based on labour, material, operational, and site-access requirements.
  • Support weekly and longer-range scheduling by providing accurate job durations, craft-loading requirements, dependencies, and ready-to-schedule work packages.
  • Prepare integrated work packages for planned shutdowns, major component replacements, commissioning activities, and other complex maintenance events.

Work Management, Materials, and Coordination:

  • Identify and reserve required parts, serialized components, repairable spares, special tools, rentals, vendor support, and contractor services; confirm availability after work is released for scheduling.
  • Work with supply chain and warehouse personnel to resolve material shortages, improve bills of materials, establish kitting requirements, and support appropriate stocking of critical spares.
  • Coordinate with operations during shutdown planning to confirm equipment access, production constraints, cleaning requirements, dewatering or depressurization needs, and equipment release windows.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation supervisors and trades to ensure plans reflect safe work practices, trade boundaries, commissioning requirements, and practical execution methods.
  • Engage engineering, reliability, original equipment manufacturers, and technical vendors when drawings, specifications, procedures, specialized support, or design clarification are required.
  • Incorporate hazard controls, lockout and isolation requirements, permits, regulatory checks, and applicable technical standards into planned work packages.
  • Maintain accurate CMMS asset records, equipment bills of materials, job plan libraries, task lists, work-order statuses, planning codes, estimated costs, and supporting documents.
  • Review completed work orders and feedback from supervisors and trades; update job plans, labour estimates, parts requirements, procedures, and asset records to improve future work. Reject low resolution or inadequate craft notes as required.
  • Monitor and report planning and scheduling measures such as backlog health, ready-work levels, schedule compliance, planned versus unplanned work, break-in work, estimate accuracy, and work-order quality.
  • Support equipment failure investigations and follow-up actions by ensuring corrective work, inspections, modifications, and maintenance-strategy changes are converted into controlled work orders and executable plans.
  • Contribute to maintenance readiness by assisting with development of asset hierarchies, bills of materials, preventive maintenance tasks, inspection routes, spare-parts recommendations, and initial job plans for new or modified equipment.
  • Promote continuous improvement in planning quality, wrench time, work execution, maintainability, reliability, and asset availability.

Additional Responsibilities

  • All other duties as reasonably assigned

The Ideal Candidate

Education / Qualifications:

  • 5 years of fixed plant maintenance experience in mining, mineral processing, heavy industrial, or comparable process operations, including demonstrated maintenance planning or scheduling experience.
  • Working knowledge of both mechanical and electrical/instrumentation maintenance activities, with the ability to develop coordinated work packages across disciplines and recognize when specialist technical input is required.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance work management, including work identification, scope development, job planning, backlog management, material coordination, weekly scheduling, shutdown planning, execution support, and work-order close-out.
  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems and the ability to maintain asset records, bills of materials, task lists, job plans, work orders, and planning data; experience with enterprise maintenance software is considered an asset.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation drawings, equipment manuals, datasheets, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, loop drawings, schematics, and vendor documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to estimate labour, duration, materials, tooling, contractor support, and execution constraints for maintenance work.
  • Experience planning shutdowns, commissioning work, major component replacements, or complex multi-trade maintenance activities is considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing work demands in a fast-paced site environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance trades, supervisors, engineering, reliability, supply chain, contractors, and vendors.
