Senior Full Stack Developer

The Alberta Public Service builds a stronger province for current and future generations. This role delivers reliable digital services that help Albertans access programs, information and supports when they need them. You will own end-to-end solutions that improve service quality, accessibility and accountability across government.

Performance Objectives
  • Deliver production-ready web applications and APIs that meet accessibility, security and privacy standards for public-facing services within agreed sprint cycles.
  • Reduce defects and incident volume on assigned systems by implementing automated tests, monitoring and rapid remediation.
  • Modernize legacy components into maintainable full-stack services that improve response times and citizen self-service rates.
  • Collaborate with policy, program and operations teams to translate legislated requirements into working software that supports ministry reporting and decision-making.
  • Mentor developers and contribute reusable patterns, documentation and code reviews that raise team delivery quality.
  • Ensure solutions integrate securely with government identity, data and cloud platforms while remaining auditable.
Environment & Resources

You will work in a multidisciplinary digital team supporting ministry program areas, reporting to a development or product lead. Tools typically include modern JavaScript/TypeScript stacks, .NET or equivalent backends, relational databases, CI/CD, cloud services and government collaboration platforms. Work follows 36.25-hour weeks in Edmonton with defined public-service processes, security screening and shared enterprise platforms.

Essential Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience shipping and operating full-stack applications in production, including frontend, backend, data and deployment.
  • Proven ability to write secure, tested, maintainable code and to diagnose production issues under service-level expectations.
  • Experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver usable outcomes.
  • University graduation in computer science or related field plus progressively responsible experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work within government security, privacy, accessibility and procurement constraints.
Role Selling Points
  • Direct impact on services used by Albertans every day.
  • Public Service Pension Plan, comprehensive benefits and professional development.
  • Stable, purpose-driven work with clear hours and work-life balance.
  • Opportunity to modernize civic technology at provincial scale.
