PHD OBEDIENCE, a new full-service dog training, boarding and daycare facility in Sarto, MB is seeking a part-time Kennel Assistant primarily for weekends, with possible weekday late-afternoons, holidays, and other flexible hours as available. Salary range dependent on training/experience from $18 - $22 an hour. Open to all individuals 16+ years old. MUST LOVE DOGS of all sizes!

Kennel Assistant experience requirements:

While preference will be given in hiring to individuals with previous animal care experience, a sincere love of dogs and a strong desire to learn is equally, if not more, important. Special consideration will be given to individual ages 16+ who believe they might want a career in the Canadian Pet Care industry, a $14.3 billion dollar industry. The position will be part-time, primarily on weekends to start. However, we expect this position to go full-time as we build our clientele. Most significantly, this job will offer extensive opportunities to learn new skills including dog training for pets, show dogs and Service dogs, retail management, public relations and marketing, and extensive pre-vet-tech level experience. For those who are interested, hands-on practical experience in training, grooming and conditioning dogs for the Canadian Kennel Club Conformation and Dog Sports will also be available, with potential opportunities to show dogs.

• Passion for animal welfare and enrichment
• Ability to understand and follow directions from trainer and senior staff
• Basic math and measurement skills to manage food, water and medications
• Record-keeping skills to document care, training, behavior and incidents with the animals
• Current valid driver's license and/or regular access to reliable transportation

Kennel Assistant duties and responsibilities:

The goal of the Kennel Assistant is to keep the kennel facility running smoothly while ensuring the animals remain safe and well cared for. Some specific duties and responsibilities may include:

• Providing food and water to animals according to care plans
• Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining the kennels, training areas and exercise yards
• Supervising daycare play groups, interacting with dogs for enrichment and taking animals for walks
• Handling bookings for board, board/train, classes and daycare as needed
• Observing animals and noting any concerns with their behaviors or health
• Assisting as needed setting up training areas for classes
• Administering medications or treatments to animals as described in their treatment plans
• Greeting customers, processing transactions and answering phone calls
• Handling sales from the retail shop
• Assisting with PR and marketing as needed
• General cleaning as needed
• Doing kennel laundry as needed
• Documenting all care provided and any incidents that occur
