Job Details:
The Buyer / Expeditor is responsible for the execution and administration of purchasing activities, including the issuance and maintenance of purchase orders, order expediting, supplier communication, and procurement-related documentation. This position supports the Procurement team by ensuring purchased goods, materials, and services are ordered accurately and delivered in accordance with project, production, and schedule requirements.
The Buyer / Expeditor works closely with Procurement, Engineering, Project Management, Quality Management, Production, and other internal departments to ensure purchasing requirements are clearly understood, purchase orders are accurately processed, and supplier commitments are maintained. The position is responsible for proactively identifying delivery concerns, following up with suppliers, and communicating issues that may affect project or production schedules.
Responsibilites:
- Reviews approved quotes, proposals, purchase requisitions, and procurement packages and issues purchase orders in accordance with established purchasing procedures
- Ensures purchase orders accurately reflect approved pricing, quantities, specifications, delivery requirements, payment terms, and other commercial conditions. Revises, cancels and changes purchase orders as required.
- Expedites purchase orders and follows up with suppliers to confirm order acceptance, production status, shipment dates, and delivery commitments
- Monitors supplier delivery schedules and proactively identifies potential delays or other issues that may affect project or production schedules
- Communicates supplier delivery status and potential schedule impacts to Procurement, Project Management, Engineering, Production, and other applicable stakeholders
- Obtains and maintains supplier order acknowledgements, shipping information, required documentation, and other purchasing records
- Coordinates with suppliers and internal departments to resolve purchase order discrepancies, delivery issues, shortages, and other routine purchasing concerns
- Coordinates and tracks incoming freight shipments and communicates delivery information to applicable personnel
- Maintains accurate purchasing and supplier information within the ERP system and other applicable databases or tracking tools
- Assists with obtaining routine quotations and pricing information for standard materials, goods, and services as directed
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Education:
- Minimum 2 year diploma in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred
- Post-secondary education in purchasing, logistics, or a related discipline is an asset
Experience:
- 2+ years of experience in a Buyer, Purchasing Coordinator, Expeditor, Procurement Coordinator, or similar role
- Experience in a manufacturing and/or fabrication environment is preferred
- Experience in the energy, power generation, oil & gas, or related industrial sector is an asset
- Experience working with an ERP system; working knowledge of Visual Manufacturing or similar ERP system is an asset
- Strong skills in the Microsoft Office suite of programs
