This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working in a hands-on environment, taking ownership of payroll operations, and supporting process improvements.

The successful Payroll Supervisor will oversee the bi-weekly payroll process for approximately 500+ employees across multiple programs while providing leadership and guidance to a small payroll team. Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, this individual will play an important role in ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, and efficiency while helping strengthen the organization's use of their current payroll system.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the full bi-weekly payroll process for employees across multiple programs.
  • Supervise, support, and provide day-to-day guidance to a payroll team member, ensuring payroll activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Review and validate payroll processing, including earnings, deductions, benefits, adjustments, taxable benefits, and other payroll-related transactions.
  • Serve as a key internal resource for Workday, ensuring the system is being used effectively and accurately.
  • Troubleshoot Workday payroll issues and work with internal stakeholders and external Workday support resources to resolve system-related challenges.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure payroll processes comply with applicable legislation, policies, and organizational requirements.
  • Coordinate year-end payroll activities, including T4s, reconciliations, reporting, and related compliance requirements.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure payroll and related accounts are accurate.
  • Work closely with Finance and Human Resources to address payroll inquiries, employee changes, and process-related issues.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees and managers regarding payroll policies, deductions, benefits, and other payroll-related matters.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, efficiencies, and overall system functionality.
  • Maintain appropriate payroll controls and documentation to support accuracy, confidentiality, and audit requirements.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of standardized payroll procedures and best practices.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of progressive payroll experience, with previous supervisory or team-lead experience strongly preferred.
  • PCP designation or equivalent payroll education is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, including employment standards, source deductions, taxable benefits, and year-end requirements.
  • Experience processing payroll for a large employee population is preferred.
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills, with the ability to reconcile and analyze payroll data.
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, managers, Finance, and Human Resources.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive payroll information.
  • Highly organized and comfortable managing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • A hands-on leader who is comfortable both managing payroll activities and getting into the details when required.
  • Experience supporting or implementing Workday Payroll.
