Senior Construction Estimator

Kitchener-Waterloo Region, Ontario

$125,000–$180,000 base salary + bonus and benefits

The best estimators do more than price drawings.

They understand how a project will actually be built, where risk is hiding, which scopes need more attention, and how to put together a number that is both competitive and commercially sound.

Blackridge Search Group is interested in speaking with experienced Senior Estimators and strong intermediate Estimators for ICI construction opportunities across the Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge and surrounding region.

We are particularly interested in candidates with general contracting experience across institutional, commercial, industrial, healthcare, education, municipal or other complex building projects.

What we're looking for

Strong candidates will typically bring experience with:

• Preparing complete estimates for ICI construction projects
• Reviewing drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Completing quantity takeoffs and scope analysis
• Soliciting, reviewing and levelling subcontractor quotations
• Identifying scope gaps, exclusions and project risk
• Building conceptual, budget and hard-bid estimates
• Participating in tender strategy and bid reviews
• Working closely with project management and field operations
• Supporting preconstruction, value engineering and constructability reviews
• Maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants
•

Experience estimating projects in the $10M–$100M+ range is particularly attractive, although overall complexity and level of responsibility are more important than a specific project value.

Who this role suits

You may already be operating at a Senior Estimator level, or you may be an experienced Estimator ready to take on larger projects, greater autonomy and more involvement in preconstruction strategy.

We're especially interested in people who can explain:

• What types of projects you have personally estimated
• The values and complexity of those projects
• Whether you owned complete estimates or individual divisions
• Your involvement in subcontractor coverage and bid strategy
• Your exposure to conceptual and preconstruction estimating
• How closely you work with operations after award
