Position Summary: The Senior Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting across multiple entities, including financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, audit support, and continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls.
Compensation Range: $75-$85K annually (DOE)
The following job responsibilities are essential for the success of this position:Full-Cycle Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Manage full-cycle accounting for multiple entities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, intercompany reconciliations, and month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, allocations, and other month-end or year-end adjustments.
- Maintain supporting schedules and ensure general ledger accounts are complete, accurate, and appropriately reconciled.
- Prepare audit working papers and supporting documentation for internal and external reporting requirements.
- Assist in the development, documentation, implementation, and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, system use, and workflow efficiency.
- Lead or support automation initiatives, accounting system enhancements, and software upgrades.
- Collaborate with operational teams and stakeholders to support accurate reporting and effective communication of financial matters.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis and other duties as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Prepare and file GST/HST/PST returns and other regulatory filings as required.
- Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other professional service providers.
- Support external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, reconciliations, and responses to information requests.
- Stay current with accounting standards, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
- Perform financial analysis, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting to support business decision-making.
- Review financial data to identify trends, discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Participate in the annual budget and forecasting process and provide practical recommendations to leadership.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close responsibilities.
- A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, or progress toward the designation, is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a multi-entity environment is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Business Central 365 or a comparable accounting system is preferred.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy, organization, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain financial information clearly.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, work independently, and collaborate effectively across departments.
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
