Permitting/Design Coordinator – Telecommunications
Position Summary
BAAC Construction is hiring a detail-oriented Permitting/Design Coordinator to support the design and approval of telecommunications networks across Alberta, in both urban and rural settings.
Working closely with the Design Manager and project team, you will prepare, submit, and track permit applications, coordinate crossing agreements and consents, and support the assembly of design packages. Your work keeps approvals moving ahead of construction so field crews can build on schedule.
This position is ideal for someone who knows Alberta permitting processes first-hand, stays organized under tight timelines, and takes ownership of every approval from submission to sign-off.
Location
- Reporting office located in Calgary, Alberta
- Projects across Alberta, in both urban and rural settings
What You'll Do
Permitting & Approvals
- Prepare and submit permit applications and supporting packages to:
- Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC)
- Municipalities, counties, and municipal districts (MDs)
- Other regulatory authorities as required
- Maintain the permit tracker, including submissions, status, conditions, and expiry dates
- Proactively flag upcoming permit expirations and initiate renewals well in advance so approvals never lapse
- Review permit conditions and make sure they are reflected in the design and communicated to construction
Crossings, Consents & Land
- Coordinate crossing agreements and consents with pipeline operators, railways, and utility owners
- Coordinate landowner consents and right-of-way documentation with land agents
- Coordinate environmental and historical resources requirements with consultants
Design Support & Document Control
- Gather base information for design, including:
- Utility records
- Land titles
- Right-of-way plans
- Support the design team with drawing package assembly, markups, and revisions
- Maintain document control for all design and permitting deliverables
Reporting & Communication
- Provide regular status updates to the Design Manager and Project Manager
- Communicate professionally and follow up persistently with agencies, municipalities, utility and pipeline operators, land agents, and landowners
- Raise issues early and work with the team to keep projects on schedule
What You Bring
Required Experience
- Permitting, land, or design coordination experience in telecommunications, utilities, oil and gas, or construction in Alberta
- Direct experience with Alberta permitting processes in both urban and rural settings
- Hands-on experience with TEC roadside development permits and municipal, county, and MD approvals
- Working knowledge of:
- Pipeline and rail crossing agreements
- Utility owner consents and landowner agreements
- Environmental and historical resources requirements
Technical Skills
- Ability to read construction drawings and assemble design packages
- AutoCAD, GIS, or Google Earth experience is considered an asset
- Experience with Smartsheet, Microsoft Office, and Trimble Construction One is considered an asset
Education
- Post-secondary education in engineering technology, GIS, land administration, or a related field is considered an asset
