The Intermediate Security Systems Designer will design and coordinate integrated security systems for a variety of building and facility projects. This is a hands-on engineering/design role with increasing responsibility for project delivery, client interaction and mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design integrated security systems including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom, duress and weapons detection.
  • Prepare AutoCAD/Revit drawings, layouts, riser/wiring diagrams, equipment schedules, specifications and technical reports.
  • Translate client operational and security requirements into practical system designs.
  • Select security technologies, equipment and system architectures.
  • Coordinate designs with electrical, architectural, mechanical and IT disciplines.
  • Conduct site assessments, construction reviews and deficiency inspections.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations and technical discussions.
  • Support tendering, construction administration, shop drawings and contractor submissions.
  • Manage multiple project deliverables, schedules and priorities.
  • Review work and provide technical guidance and mentoring to Junior Designers and Co-op students.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, advanced video surveillance, drone detection, access control and networked security systems.
What We're Looking For
  • Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited university
  • 2+ years of security systems design experience, ideally within an engineering consulting environment
  • Experience designing and documenting physical/electronic security systems
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Access control
    • CCTV/video surveillance
    • Intrusion detection
    • Intercom
    • Duress systems
    • Security system integration and infrastructure
  • Experience developing drawings, specifications and technical reports through design, tender and construction phases
  • AutoCAD experience required
  • Revit experience considered an asset, strong proficiency is preferred
  • Understanding of applicable codes, standards and project requirements
  • Strong technical, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work with increasing independence
  • Valid G driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle for site visits
  • Must be able to obtain Level 2 Secret Security Clearance
