Firma Contracting is looking for an experienced Topman to join our underground utilities team on water and sewer projects throughout Edmonton.
This position works closely with the Foreman, Lead Hand, Pipelayer and equipment operators to keep underground installation work organized, safe and moving efficiently. Hourly Wage: $35–$42/hour, based on experience
Additional Compensation:
- Signing bonus available for eligible candidates
- Eligibility for performance-based bonuses
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the Foreman and Lead Hand to plan upcoming work and maintain an efficient workflow
- Establish and verify grade for water, sanitary and storm utility installations
- Measure, cut and bevel pipe as required for installation
- Anticipate material requirements and coordinate closely with the Pipelayer and ditch crew
- Rig and safely supply pipe, materials and equipment to the excavation
- Maintain clear communication with operators and ground personnel to support safe and efficient operations
- Assist with site documentation and required project records
- Participate in site inspections and incident reviews when required
- Identify deficiencies and assist with implementing corrective actions
- Support other crew positions when needed to maintain production
- Maintain a professional, dependable and safety-focused approach on site
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of previous Topman experience on underground utility projects
- Experience with underground utility rehabilitation and replacement is considered an asset
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans and grade sheets
- Experience establishing grade and using eye-level equipment with geodetic capabilities
- Strong knowledge of water and sewer pipe installation processes
- Good understanding of jobsite workflow and material logistics
- Experience with appropriate rigging methods and equipment
- Ability to anticipate upcoming crew and material requirements
- Comfortable working independently and following direction from the Foreman
- Strong verbal communication skills and ability to provide clear instructions
- Ability to assist with training and mentoring less-experienced crew members
- Reliable attendance and ability to consistently report to work fit for duty
- Strong commitment to safe work practices
Required Certifications:
- CSTS 2020
- WHMIS 2015
- Confined Space is considered an asset
- Ground Disturbance Level 2 is considered an asse
